Have you gone for anything yet? be interested to see what you go for I'm on my first 29er, it too is a lightweight carbon jobbie. I even bought it second hand, it was just too good to resist. I origonally wanted to try out a steel frame and make sure I got on with the wagon wheels and then eventuall...

Re: Exped downmats?
I have a downmat 7, its by far the most comforatable mat. I always take it for winter use.
Mine is the standard version which is a pain to pump up but its good once up.
I also have an airmat UL, which I like but its got no warmth to it.

I've stuck an entry in too now.
Looking forward to it, its the last chance for my hooped bivi to remain condensation free or its getting the big sell!

Re: 'Low carb' diet
I've been procrastinating about trying this out. Whilst I could definately stand to lose a few lbs (or kilo's) I kno wthat if im not eating the bike performance is nowhere. I'm considering a Food is Fuel policy and well, just putting in the fuel when needed and low / no carbs when possible. In prepa...

I was looking at the ascent, its a whole bucket load heavier than the borah.
The only thing putting me off now is the waterproof-ness of the fabric. BUT.. enough of you are using it that I should probably stop worrying about it

Re: Mutli-Day setup help?
cheers for that. I'm certainly looking at it.
I'm slightly put off by the fabric being not fully waterproof but like you say, you havnt seen an issue.
Also putting me if is the combo of bivi bag + Tarp + groundsheet, its getting towards just taking a tent. Although I know thats not always the point

Re: Mutli-Day setup help?
Thanks for the info. Even after looking for 20mins I'm almost convinced the standard borah and smallest tarp could work for me. They probably pack down smaller than a hooped bivi too. I guess the tarp could be put up using bike parts without too much trouble. Then if its dry and warm, just dont both...

looking at these bivvy's, am I right in saying, if it rains - the tarp is 100% essential.
I take it the non mesh parts are fully waterproof too?

Re: Mutli-Day setup help?
I was kind of thinking along a similar route. Blaming the bivy. Part of the problem is that when I am around, the midge are ALWAYS out. I get eaten alive and am unfortunate enough that it causes a large amount of swelling. To swap bivvy bags I would need to go for one with 100% coverage even if some...

Mutli-Day setup help?
Afternoon, I was hoping to get the advice of multiday veterans out there on dealing with dampness! Specifically with regard bivi kit. I have a hooped bivi and a down sleeping bag that I’ve used a couple of times for 2 day bike packing trips (anything over 1 night I have traditionally used a tent). T...

Thought i'd throw my own plans in the mix here. I was origonally planning to go to colorado for the ctr but might not make it this year due to various reasons. Definately planning on the Highland Train 400 though. Also, will be trying to get off to somewhere sunny for a week or so in late feb if pos...

you deffinately need another MTB though.
i stick to
1 Fast and light hardtail
1 Full suspension for playing out
1 Road
1 Tour
I do have a frame stored in the loft, but thats because I do really like it and will go back to it at some point
