I thought about it for a while, but didnt see the point as the inner is pretty light in the parts list for the laser so I just used both.

Probably dosnt help though

Re: Higher average speed or ride longer?

I think if you already have the ability to ride for extended period, and are activly fighting the faff factor then the logical step at some point is to try to increase the pace. I would guess trying to do this in short steps would be key to ensure no loss of stamina? Personally, I need to nail down ...

Re: Silk bag liner

I have a rab one, I like it. I have only used it a handful of times though. Temperature wise - it adds 'a bit' of warmth. Thats about as technical as I could get on the subject though. It wont turn a summer bag to a winter one thats for sure!

Re: Which rim?

If I recall, some of the smoother DH pro level riders use Flow's as thier rim of choice. It would seem over kill for bikepacking? I am currently using crests fro the first time, they have seen about 600 miles I think and so far so good, the odd scuff but no problems. I also have a set of arch 26ers....

If anyone is looking for somewhere to stay the night before Oswestry Travelodge can be had for £15! The Tripadvisor reviews aren't great but then I'm not sure that'll upset many of you.... Gone up to £19 now, which is still cheap and as such, booked. Thanks for the heads up! I really like the sound of this but wont know if I can make it until a little nearer the time (like a month from now I suppose) when I get my act together and write down the things I've already committed to on a calender. If its ok with you, could I say I'm a maybe but wont say for sure till later, ...

good info peoples, thanks :D

A padded bike bag that will roll up to carry on my back seems to be the order of the day.

Hmm, straying into national parks, that would suggest i'd have a map and know where i was going :D

Tenerife and flying with bikes

Thinking of going to tenerife for a few days, 3 full days riding. The plan would be to ride right out of the airport and head to the off road as soon as possible, bivi out each night and ride as much as possible. Does anybody know anything about: a, The riding, any pointers appreciated b, Luggage st...

1st - Not really a resolution for this year but I really want to do the TD at some point.

I've entered the highland trail race and this years target is to do myself proud in that, then continue to progress throughout the year.

2nd - Bivvy a month minimum.

Re: Tubeless

I've been tubeless for years ever since i lived in the lakes. I used to get an average of one puncture per ride, now its hardly ever. I still carry one tube just in case on normal rides, sometimes 2 on longer rides. I have once ripped a Tyre and then had the valve totally jammed and took ages to cut...

Re: Kit 'base weights' ... anyone SUL?

I would say, including bike tools and spare tubes etc. sleeping bag and bivi kit and a jacket, and my new 10g stove I might just get into ultralight 10lb, although it might be 11lbs. For winter I add about 4 to 6 lbs of gear, substituting bigger sleeping bag, downmatt, bigger jacket, maybe a tent. S...

Apart from great uncle travelling matt of fraggle rock fame, whats your current favourite matt? I have quite a few, he...
