Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

saw a solaris (in green) recently and it looked stunning. I'm a massive on one fan, i've just bought #5!, but i would be very wary of their carbon after a number of horror stories of friends, must be 4/5 mates bought whippets and all have had problems. front mech mount falling off, creaking BB inser...

Re: On One Inbred choice..

i'm 5'11" & ride an 18". i run a 100 mm stem with swept back bars/ prob need a 80mm stem on 'normal bars'.

I could probably get away with a 19.5". where are you - there are loads of people with them & people are often happy for you to have a ride.

the first night i tried my micro tarp (batwing shape) we had more rain than any other night for the entire year  i think we had a barbecue that night too!! we were sleeping in a pine forest, where there are kind of ploughed mounds where the trees are in a line. i was on top, in the morn...

would a gas stove not be lighter?

i'm sure i read a (us backpacking) website a while back where the guy had calculated how many days of meths equalled a gas canister & stove. i think that at around a week a gas can became he lighter option...

hi,

the creak is from the interface where the LH arm and the axle meet; they came loose once and creaked ever since.

cheers.

Re: What GPS?

i use an ancient garmin geko. it has no mapping functions (from gps's i've seen with os map functions they're not ideal). so after plotting a route on memory map and uploading it you have 2 navigation screen options; there is a compass type screen which shows direction & distance to the next way...

Visually good but they creak a bit; hence the low price. £20 ultegra cranks. std double - bought second hand and never used 172.5mm £40 32T alu bashring. worn to the rear but the front is in decent nick. £8 44T XT/ SLX chainring (i can't remember) 9 speed, brand new....

Re: Slicks for a 29er...

i would go for a 32/ 35c tyre. I'm currently running paneracer pasella 28c on my commuter on a mtb (19mm internal) rim and i wouldn't recommend narrower than that. i think i ran 25c on the same rim but i can't remember... michelin world tour in 35c are cheap (bit heavy) but roll & grip well and ...

Re: Food on the go. Whats best.

good question. given your situation i would try and plan the evening meals so i didn't end up with m&ms and a snickers for tea!! breakfast - danish /cheese straw/ flapjack / cake bar whatever i fancied really; if your carrying on riding there's no reason why it can't be the same as riding food. ...

somerset to hampshire

So our planned route (southampton- poole- isle of wight- southampton) was abandoned wednesday as riding buddies started dropping out; so a new plan was hatched... So we got the 2 o clock train out of Southampton friday lunchtime heading west, i won't bother describing the typical hassles of UK bike ...
