Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

i'm in southampton. and i have a few routes that are local.

New forest is good for gravel (if not hills). I also have a route from winchester - salisbury - shaftsbury & return via downton which is around 100.

Re: Your 'goals' for the coming year.

I'm trying to ride on a much smaller budget than before. so making the most of a couple of events is the way forward for me. I'd like to actually finish a race and be happy with my placing - the last few years i have racked up DNfs i'm not sure i've actually finished a race in over 2 years! ...

Re: Spot trackers - talk to me!

My good lady wants me to get one as I ride on my own quite a lot, often in the dark at this time of year.
without phone signal?

My OH uses find my friends (on iphone) to [stalk] track me.

The novelty has worn off so i no longer get " i know you're in the pub" texts!

Re: Training for endurance riding/racing eg HT/TD

*One thing I did read was regarding cross training - "if you want to get good at cycling, don't go skiing" without writing a (boring) essay. there's a lot of rubbish talked for and against cross training. The key thing is WHY. If you are (cross) training what purpose does it serve; what i...

Re: Bikefitting

had one a few years back for my road bike - i had never had a roadie before and something was wrong with the saddle/ pedal. I had in my mind that something about the cleats/ and my funny ankles was meaning that i was getting knee pain. I had tried adjusting the saddle height but nothing seemed to fi...

Re: Don't show Stuart this....

that sounds fun - imagine a bastard child of that and the WRT.

Everyone goes to a checkpoint - and collects their route/ next checkpoint. and repeat.

i'm not sure how you'd manage it, or indeed ensure people finished within a time frame but could be a great idea...

maybe.

Re: Lets talk about CX tyres

small block 8 is a great tyre: much better in mud than the mtb version; probably due to it's width. The other thing with it is it's quite tall so has a bit of squish. turns much nicer than the twister too.... The twister is ok, but i found that the edge is too square, when cornering on tarmac you ri...

Re: Which monstercross type type frame??

seriously try and get a ride on a few bikes and make your mind up that way. I have a pompino and a vaya and have ridden a friends crosscheck a bit. The crosscheck is the same geo as the straggler and similar to the pompino; they are trad cross geo. The vaya is modern 'gravel' geo (or old tourer geo!...

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

I'd be keen for something that is in the US gravel grinder style. [trans iowa/ dirty kanza, etc etc] ie no camping but possibly an overnight. I think timing is important. Paul78 is definitely a better judge than me but i get the impression that the american gravel roads are somewhat better maintaine...

If only someone would come up with a QR15 dynamo..... I've heard rumours of them in the works, but none have broken cover yet.
