Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
I have to say that this is tough. The distances are so big even to the next bend, that it's hard to feel like progress is happening. I have changed my mindset since the first few days - no longer chasing a "position" but now aiming to finish in under 20 days. If 20 people beat me that's gr...

Properly inspired by Mr Large. Hope for us old dogs yet! He's nobbut a young 'un! Usually when you go through the annual "Bikes of the Divide" posts on Bikepacking.com there's a large proportion of over 60s. Quite possible that it's a bucket list type thing for people to do when the...

Peanut buttermud clings to everything-locking up wheels within a few revolutions. I had a little bit in the great basin, but miles of it would be impossible. You get to the point where you can't go forwards or backwards - a dangerous place to be.

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
So, got chased through the basin by a massive storm/thundercloud, so when we (Brian and I were riding together) saw a load of oil Wells with buildings and a big hanger, trying a few doors meant we could get a heated balcony for the night in the warm and dry. So an early finish and early start today....

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
Thanks all. Josh has scratched - he had a chest infection before the start that cleared up, but bad news it's back. The nights have been very cold and the days hot which won't help. Danny Green is a bit tough - army type and 2x finisher of the CTR (I think its that one). Quite fast! I'm having a sho...

Nice
If you extend the ally strip down and put a right angle bend on, then you'll have a stopper to prevent things sliding downwards. You probably thought of that though...

I flew in today - now in a crappy hotel in Calgary. Moving to Canmore to meet up with a few others tomorrow. UK riders are Phil Jones, Danny Green, josh Ibbett, Chris Ellison (Dale's Divide organiser), Anthony Ball, Chris Ross. Should be fantastic although there's still snow on the passes, and signi...

I really like my Trailstar (copy). Spacious enough for 2, and not too heavy. Needs a pole but a great tarp for winter. I was looking (and admiring) yours in that 80ish miler you did to check out your gear Steve(en?). Love to get some more info on that and whats weights we talking... Ah that was a t...

I have one - very stable, but over 400g... I found that it affects the steering toomuch, and bar stability when manoeuvring the bike through gates etc, but I then cut down the brackets by 25mm and it's made a massive improvement, plus the weight has dropped to 375g. I'm impressed enough to use it on...

Some "stop being soft" stickers from Stu. I thought I had some, but couldn't find them, so Stu had a rummage. Bike's now fully prepared for Tour Divide duties.

Re: HT550 Grand Depart - May 2022
Alex, best advice is not to quit. Your body might tell your head that its tired, and your head might have some dark moments, but keep pedalling and moving forwards. And don't get xaught up in the excitement at the start. You're fit and capable, but this is a ride that is governed by your head not yo...
