Re: HT550 - 2024
Looks like Alex Berry has scratched - his dot is no longer on the map, the last ping was around Clunes, the ticker board shows him scratching around 2200 last night but the riders list isn't showing him at all. Tyre and spoke issues means he's out. A shame as he's got to get to Ft William anyway an...

Things are cheery here. Bought tickets to see PJ Harvey in August in London Town after umming and ahhing for weeks. Plus got my sub standard together for some longer term plans.

Re: Fork Mounted Bottles...
I've a big bottle cage that will hold a 1.5 litre bottle I used on the TD. It was tiestrapped or jubilee clipped to the fork leg - wasn't expensive and I actually have 2 that I was looking at the other day thinking I should sell them. I used a disposable bottle in them - that way I didn't care too m...

That's a brilliant achievement- some bits are type 3 fun I think.

Could be a cockchafer beetle Reg? We have a Greater Spotted Woodpecker nesting in a hole in one of our oaks. There's a regular Lesser Spotted visitor to our garden but never seen a Greater Spotted until yesterday. Now trying to work out how to get a motion controlled camera 40 feet up in the air.......

Re: Bike packing full suspension frame/ bike recommendations
I have a Spesh Epic and it's a brilliant fast XC bike and would be perfect for a lightweight HT550 type route. The downside of some FSers is that a rear pack is tricky especially if using a dropper. But go light and it would be ideal

Re: Travelling across Europe quickly - how?
Some good ones there, thanks. Maybe TGV and ICE trains are an option. Riding there could be, but I'd probably get very bored by the time I got there - France is massive and flat. And thanks Sean - and that is an option - of course you know that a SC range rover is 248g/km CO2....a lot less than a pl...

Travelling across Europe quickly - how?
Next year I want to enter a bikepacking race through Albania and Balkan states, it's a no fly event which is fine by me, but it starts 1500 miles away. Trains could be OK, but TGV's are "no bikes" and driving there (and back) is a big chunk of driving (especially on my own). How would you ...

Hah! : ) Yes....an evening at the Ragleth should be on the cards...and perhaps the Star. I've a rough idea to take the lad over Trans Cambrian to get to BB country but then it's all open. Gotta strap kit on him this week and get him used to carrying. Greetz S : ) The Star is no more Scott..... sad ...

Re: GB Duro Entries open
I had a place last year, but threw away the entry fee as I couldn't get excited about it. Not sure why not, but I think the semi race idea (4 stages), and the logistics, and the idea of it being green, but not really, turned me off.... I think if Alan G organised something like this I'd be all over ...

Re: Rollers
I'd bodge a repair Boab , and bond the axle back in. Those rollers were old when I got them off CJR61 (off here), so whilst they've not done any miles, they're a bit past it. Newer rollers are a parabolic shape to help keep you central - I actually got a set when my club was chucking some out, but I...

Cheers for that, a good read. Funnily enough I've now progressed from "never again" to "can't wait until the next one" I mean it can be any worse can it? That's every year Phil. It's an event I love, as its a true test of character. So far every finisher has character :-)

That was strange. Had a dream in which someone had a go of my bike at the start gathering and snapped the frame near the BB. Erm, please could you have dream tonight Stu where you hire me a loan bike? Or, as it's a steel P7, do an emergency weld? Then again, I now remember it was a WRT gathering so...

I've decided to go west into Dyfi forest, the North over Bwlch y Groes, with an undercover overnighter by Lake Vrnwy then back through Dyfnant forest on Sunday. Mainly roads and fire roads as I can see anything off road being a horrible slog. I'll be singlespeed as I haven't used it for a couple of ...
