Re: Catching fly campers!

but they are powerless to move people on Wonder why that is? I assumed they were agents of the landowner ... or could certainly pretend to be quite convincingly. They can ask people to move on - but when faced with aggression or abuse it isn't always wise without police backup - which just isn't av...

Re: Catching fly campers!

I've asked the Wardens (via social media) if the rubbish was gone or did they pick it up as they passed through later that day. Will be interesting to know whether the lads went back for it or not..... I'll post on here once I find out. My BiL is one of the Snowdon rangers/wardens (he doesn't like ...

Re: Importing from the EU

Right pain in the ar$e. Bought some brake calipers for the van from "CarPartsUK" or something like that (thinking that they would be within the UK) and they shipped from Germany. Paid an additional £20 to get them through customs, then the old units that I needed to return needed 4 sets of paperwork...

That is a cracking old school bike, and worth every penny of the current bid price. A proper rarity as well.

Re: Catching fly campers!

The bit I don’t get, is why go to the bother of bagging it up, and then leave it? It's the same people who bag their rubbish up and lob it out of the car window - normally their lunch rubbish of collection from the car. Why they can't stick it in their wheelie bin when they get home I have no idea,...

Re: Wildlife

What did bees do before beehives?

Saw a cracking fallow deer up here in the Yorkshire Dales - watching us watching him, then off into the woods. Plus loads of curlews, oystercatchers and skylarks. Brilliant to see birds and animals in different parts of the UK.

Re: Honey, I smoked the discs!

Do the pads have the finned backplate that some shimano pads have? These are designed to get the heat away from the pad and prevent overheating. Dragging brakes is bad for heat generation- not sure if it helps but I try to alternate front and rear in some longer descents

Ah ok, thought you were using the Dynamo to charge the battery whilst running the lights off the battery. That wouldn’t work

Re: Extending light burn time. Is this possible?

Just bare in mind that the dynamo output is AC and not regulated in any way. It could be 3V or 30V depending on speed and the electrical load hanging off it. The only way you should really use it is via a rectifier or power management device such as Cycle2Charge, Sinewave, Kemo or similar. These con...

My SLX rear brake does that also. Convinced it’s a micro leak in the calliper that contaminates the pad overnight- no fix I am afraid

Re: From Sea to Mountain - Locations?

Newport and Preseli hills/mountains. Not the highest, but lovely scenery and easily accessible. Can 2nd this - Newport is a nice little town with cracking beach/estuary and the Preseli / Carningli hills are backing right on to it. They are only 300-400m high, but the views from the tops are superb.

Huge congratulations to Mart, Trep and Journeyman (and all the others). It's been a welcome relief from work to watch the dots whilst re-imagining the bits you are riding / pushing / swearing your way through. It's a fantastic event / route and I hope you have brilliant memories of it.

Re: Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs are lovely animals, there seemed to be lots in the Yorkshire Dales when I did the Divide last year. Less common in the Midlands than they used to be. And you’re right Ton, some great people out there. It should be law though that any hedgehog rescue place is called Miss Tiggywinkles

Re: Q for parents- finding time to ride

Bike trailer could work, even better if your other half rides and it can become a family affair. Commuting by bike - (works for my mental and physical health) Run (instead of ride) Look at any time you waste by driving (on your own) and see if you can replace by cycling. Ride at times the kids are a...

Re: HT550 2021

Fantastic achievement by Liam, and incredibly strong rides by Andy, James and Josh. The race this year is different to how I had imagined it, but in many ways is exceeding expectations. The main body of the field is showing real grit and determination to keep plugging away and (I hope) they are all ...

That's bad news...☹️ I thought he could get it fixed. The "bike shop" in Ullapool is just a rack of inner tubes, puncture repair kits and water bottles and the like in an outdoor sorts shop. Contin/Strathpeffer will be the nearest. I had a freehub posted to me when mine went bang just outside Ullap...
