Re: The next big thing in bike packing.

*If it wasn't hard enough to ride as it is there's the cable controlled steering to add to the fun Fly by stretchy wire? Weren't all go karts controlled by that when kids were allowed to do that sort of thing? Absolute deathtrap way of steering. And reversing the cables is genius - or just introduc...

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles

Went out for a couple of hours yesterday in the last of the sun and only managed to bag a single new square, apparently I should have zigged instead of zagged at one particular junction to get another one, hohum. Up to a mahoosive 6x6 square  Even the big hitters up there started somewhere!! ...

Re: YD300 2021

You'll know Cam Head after the Dent valley - it's the big hill with swearwords dropped every 20 metres or so. Depends what you mean by "bivvy spots" - there's loads of flat spots or spots under trees all the way down the Dent valley (including a basic campsite after the little footpath str...

Re: The next big thing in bike packing.

I’m intrigued by that picture. Are the handlebars connected to the front wheel? They look like they’re pointing in different directions. And wtf is that person wearing? Sort of pantaloons or something?

Re: YD300 2021

I think it will be OK weatherwise. Min 12degC overnight and light breeze, and max 17deg during the day. With the odd shower. That's just fine isn't it? Short sleeves and armwarmers, and a light waterproof. Feels like a long time since I've done a ride like this so just getting my plan together.... W...

Re: I know you all love an expensive adventure

It's a cracking sales job on that website though. I got quite sucked in to it.

Then I thought that we could just turn up and do it anyway, stop in a bivvy bag in a ditch and dine on discarded Michelin star foodscraps

Re: Etrex 22x

An Etrex 22x will see you round the BB200 no problem. In my experience of GPS's the actual map can be unimportant - it is your position relative to the GPS route line that can be important. However it can be useful to see some of the surrounding information on the map - but you only get a 2" sq...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

In giving my DT Swiss forks a lower leg service I have managed to mess my forks up. Pulled off the lowers (all good), changed the seals and foam rings and went to refill with oil etc and I pushed the damping rod back into the damper where it jammed. Phone call to TF Tuned who helpfully said to put t...

And don't think that the campsite in Dentdale will have a tap. It doesn't. The tap for the campsite is on the side of a farmhouse 1/2mile down the road. Brownish water but OK to drink.

Re: Mixing brakes - is it acceptable?

You appear to have asked a question about brakes, but you've actually asked us to determine the very nature of your personality: are you classical thinker, valuing function over form, or vice versa, a romantic  I reckon go further than accepting it, positively revel in it - mix n match as man...

Thanks all, looks like I need to take a deep breath, change the rear brake to my old Hope Mini, and celebrate the braking diversity. Some of the mix and match suffered by some of you would make me cringe - I'll have to point fingers and snigger when I see your bikes next! Alpinum - this has been goi...

Mixing brakes - is it acceptable?

My really old Stumpjumper is my singlespeed that’s great fun, super light and ideal for short sharp blasts. However the rear brake squeals like a banshee. It’s an IS mount frame, with a post mount adaptor and SLX calliper. I have a really old IS Hope mini brake that will fit that I think will get ri...

Re: Smart watch / Fitness tracker recommendations?

I bought a Garmin Vivoactive 4 - if you have any kind of life assurance then some do deals - my one (Prudential based thing) gave me a 40% discount and I got it for around £130. Seems to be really good - although I only use a fraction of the features. It has GPS tracking, activity tracking, workouts...

I’m not medical at all, but google is not your friend here - get to the docs on Monday, they’ll refer you and probably you’ll get an ECG. In the meantime- ride your bike to relieve stress, cut down on caffeine and avoid alcohol. If it helps then sex is still good.

Hi, I am planning to do the Tour Divide in 2022 I also know of another 4 people very interested (1 confirmed and a TD vet, the others I know will turn up excepting disasters) We have a Google group set up to share info (in it's infancy at the moment), but this is really for people to actively contri...

Well I don't mind it. And I also haven't forgotten that this is run and maintained by volunteers who do other stuff as well (I was going to say "have jobs", but that's only Dee....)

Is there an option for a slightly larger text font though - Sean's glasses aren't strong enough?
