SPOT GPS messenger
Any one use one? Been thinking of getting one for bikepacking as i usually go away on my own and it would give the wife piece of mind. I have heard real mixed reviews on the forums about them though and some real horror stories about the service plan, like you have to commit to auto renew your subsc...

Re: Jones Loop bars and handlebar sling?
I use a Sling with Loop bars on my Fargo. I find it sits rather nice on what would normally be the handlebar and holds it far better than it did when I ran drops. I do have quite a long stem though (130mm) but cant see there being an issue with shorter ones. The only problem I have had is fitting th...

Interesting. Be good to see some pics if this weather ever allows you to pitch it! I thought about a full net option in mine but decided against as wanted versitilaty of an inner. Have you had chance to sling on scales yet? Just wondering what weight saving is over my cuben lair with beak and pyrane...

Re: Map apps for iPad?
I second viewranger. It's very intuitive, can be used as a tracker to show your location to others via website and is easy to plan routes with. You can make in app purchases for custom OS tiles or complete area's. You can also use it cross platform, so I have it installed on my Ipad and Android phon...

Re: The post man's been ...
Thanks for the tips Stu, there were no instructions and I was trying to pitch from a Youtube vid. Try attaching your net to the pegging points/apex suspension point on the Lair with some 2mm shockcord, thing goes up and down in one, saves on pegs for the net and helps keep the base of the net nice a...

rothersmith, any chance of a picture of the Lair & Pyranet packed up please? (for pack size). Thanks! Happy to oblige, although I am not sure you get an idea of scale. You could also squish it up a bit smaller http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7089/7376091164_8e88ecdea5.jpg Lair and Pyranet 1 packe...

I use Gore-tex socks. Perfect for slipping between your socks and riding showes for river crossings, wet rides and preventing that wet shoe dry sock feeling the following day. And of course they are perfect for trotting round campsite in.

All £290 including shipping. Its expensive but couldn't find any tents of same weight and flexibility for price when I was looking. I also decided to splash the cash on cuban. Not sure about the vent at moment, its not that big and has a stiffener which limits how small you can pack it. Havent used ...

Posty has been round my house too in the last couple of days. First a Framebag from Wildcat for my Fargo which I thought was small untill I saw Flatfishy's. Mind you should be big enough for my teddies :D http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7083/7187491377_f786da2907.jpg Wildcat Frame bag by Brother Smith...

Ordered my Lair with Pyranet a few weeks ago for exactly the reason's Stu outlined. It shipped last Monday and desperately hoping I get in time for trip next week. Fingers crossed! Gone for the cuban version with beak and vent. On paper Lair and Pyranet should come in at 382g but scales of justice w...

Second the race kings if it's dry trails. However as you said UK your bound to come across some mud and they clog really easily so I now use Schwable Smart Sam's which have better side knobs and don't clog as easily. I also have 29" WTB Nanoraptors on my Fargo which are fast, cheap and cope wel...

Re: Sealskin socks!?
I never really got on with them. Found that once they wet out your feet got cold and if water got in from the top they stayed wet. Mine also started to give up the ghost after half-a-dozen washes and weren't at all waterproof after that. Now use gore-tex socks which are ace. Pack up small and fit ov...

2 Day ride through the Peak
Family, work and study commitments meant I didn't get out much last year, so I resolved to get out more this year. Unfortunately my plans for April were scuppered by work, so this was the first opportunity I had to get out. So to make the most of my time I decided to keep it local, I also like trave...
