Re: FAO Brothersmith

Ha! I just posted you missed the train  Well done though must have been one hell of a sprint and my hat goes off to you getting a loaded bike and 2 rucksacs over a footbridge to another platform that quick.

Good luck and I will keep an eye on your progress

Also got one of those cheap 1:50k GB cards from iOffer. Allegedly genuine but as long as it works will be happy man :D

Used to carry loads of water too until I released how much it was adding to my pack weight. Then went to refilling from Mountain streams until I heard horror tales from Chew and Stu from doing this with out a water filter. I now use a travel tap; http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/hydration/PA101.htm...

Adjustablewrench - I am doing the light version and on my jack tod. I also live in Uttoxeter so if you want a lift your welcome. I am slow though (Av sp. usually around 5mph loaded and can usually do 50m before totally knackered) so not a problem if you want to hook up with someone more competative :D

Re: How much does your bike weigh?

For some strange reason I work kit weight in Kg and bike weight in lbs :? My Fargo has been on a diet recently and is down to just under 25lbs. I havent managed to get my pack weight below 8.5kg (not including food and water) without starting to cross my personal suffering/comfort line and loosing a...

Re: Offroad from home?

I am in Uttoxeter (its near Alton Towers) 10mile of quite back roads gets me to the Tissington trail or Staff Moorlands and on into the Peak proper. When I started Bikepacking I start and finished all my routes from home; there is something about starting your journey by bike I find very satisfying....

Nice shinny new brakes thanks to Jameso. Just a bit worried levers will be too short for my Jones bars but looking forward to testing them later in the week :D

Had the pass stamped :D . Really didn't think I would as we go on holiday on Monday.

Really appreciate a master class on cooking. Still can't get the hang of cooking effectively on meths or know what I can whip up with a quick shop round a Spar / garage.

Cheers all for suggestions so far. Anthony, both would be good. Would like views but if forcast crapy an alternative would be good. I have done Stanage plantation before but where are the caves? We will be stopping over Monday night so hopefully shouldn't be too busy. I also had Win Hill in mind but...

Bivi spots in the dark peak

Bit of cheeky one this I know, but I'm after some suggestions for a bivi spot in Hope, Edale, Derwent valley areas. I would normally sus a suitable site out myself but I am meeting a friend who's walking and arranging a place to meet could be tricky. Appreciate any locations you don't mind sharing w...

Just found another useful part to the viewranger app. Buddy beacon, use it like a spot tracker, anyone you give your user name and ID code can check where you are on viewranger .com It also drains the battery. It seems fine; the garage test brought 350ml of water to a rolling boil in 4.40min and seems to be no issues with flame being reduced :D Chew it has tabs at the top that hook over the pot. Think of it as the pot holding the windshild in place rather than the other way round. The bonus with this is I...
