Re: recommend me some new disc brakes

I have old Hope mono M4's, Juicy 3's, BB7's and 2 pairs of Tektro's and with the right pads they are all fantastic. If you havn't tried Clark's sintered pads I would give them a go. I've used them for years, they are cheap, last ages and have vaguely exciting stopping power. Ebay, CRC or wiggle when ...

Re: Scotland BOB

Hey 99percentchimp, the BOB I have is the YAK and doesn't have suspension, they do 1 called the IBEX with suspension but from what I've read its a waste of money as you don't need it. The YAK will do everything you need. I was towing about 20kg I reckon including the trailer but they will take up to...

Re: HOw to get the right chainline with an Alfine 11?

If you are used to a standard 27speed mtb setup and do use the lower gears with a 11-32, 11-34 cassette I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 20T sprocket and 32T chainring. There is quite a jump between 1st and 2nd gear, almost feels like you are going from 1st to 3rd!!

Re: HOw to get the right chainline with an Alfine 11?

Im running a 32:21 using a nexus sprocket dished outwards and the plastic guard removed and a raceface Evolve chainset. Chainline is bang on and has been trouble free for a few thousand miles.

Re: Scotland BOB

The BOB is no problem off-road as long as the trail is wide enough and you keep the speed down if it gets a bit rocky, it will bounce around if you're too fast.

Scotland BOB

Just a quick report guys as I wasn't strictly bike-packing but I did wild camp and go off-road so it sort of counts!! The general plan was to start at Milngavie and join the WHW and pick up the NCN Route 7 and head north and see where I visited until I got back. The route went through Aberfoyle-Call...

Cairngorm's question!

Does anyone know if the track that heads north from Dalnacardoch Lodge ( on A9 glen Garry), past loch an Duin, Gaik Lodge, into Glen Tromie and ends at Tromie Bridge on NCN route 7 is rideable with a BOB trailer.Looks good on the map just wondered if anyone knows it. Im heading up there next week and...

You will struggle to beat this for quality and price. I've got 1 and a Fladen 100 reel and will also be up in Scotland sometime next week so if you see some-one looking totally battered towing a BOB Yak then it could well be me!!! I intend to try and catch dinner. Tight lines! http://www.amazon.co.u...

Travel tap here too. I've used 1 for several years and never had any problems. Just fill an empty platypus just before setting up camp for tea/dinner and breakfast. i usually carry a few high5 tablets to make up a drinks bottle for the next day, they weigh next to nothing and saves drinking plain wat...

Re: Tip of the day!

Oh dear! I didn't realise that you could buy them a couple at a time, the forestry one's seem to only come in packs of 100 and I doubt I will ever need that many. I carry a few that were taken off the posts when the trees were big enough to be rabbit proof. I was merely pointing out that they are us...

Tip of the day!

If you come across a load of trees like this on your travels http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8246/8633238129_79174c0a18_z.jpg They are more than likely held up with re-useable cable ties like this (bottom 1) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8264/8633238637_7e50f587d6.jpg They are very useful loads of thi...

Re: GPS mount

Here is my Garmin mount sat on the top cap on a 90mm 17deg stem. It's not pretty but it has never ever moved. Just uses a couple of re-useable cable ties so its easy to take on and off.
