Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

The 20" wheels would appeal to me, if I needed a folding bike  A hint of the Moulton ATB there! A folding gravel bike? Quite niche. I need a travel gravel bike: https://bikepacking.com/bikes/bike-friday-all-packa-review/ https://bikepacking.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Bike-Friday-All-...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

Found the article now..."The G Line is the first Brompton to ride like a full-size bike across multiple types of terrain". At least it has 20" wheels, gives it a bit more chance. £2400...buy a Bike Friday All Packa instead.

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

I've never ridden a Brompton, and i've never seriously considered one as i'm nearly 6'2" and i've no interest in skinny 16inch wheels. However, this looks pretty cool, and i can see it as a bit more versatile multi-terrain traveller. It looks pretty cool, and those discs are dinky! Expensive t...

Re: BB200 2024

In 2018 my chain snapped twice and I had to soft pedal the road back to the start after about 5 hours, a lucky escape! Not before a couple of bollock-deep river crossings (including Dave's swim location) and side wind so strong a land rover track wasn't wide enough to stay on. I can laff about it no...

Re: Rear LED to clip on a bag

I use a Cateye Wearable X on my courier bag when commuting.

It's survived going through the wash after I forgot it was clipped to my jersey pocket a year or two ago, which is a recommendation of sorts.

Quite expensive for what it is though.

I have a pair of Shimano 8spd STi shifters stashed in the bike parts maturation facility at home. Of interest to you?

Re: Crank Compatibility

I had a 5800 105 left 4iiii crank on my 785 right crank on my 73mm BB shell for a few weeks in 2021 when I was working abroad. It fits on the splines but the crank arm was narrower than the left 785 so I remember some kind of bodge I had to do where I added a BB spacer or two inboard of the left sid...

Re: Shimano hub question

8-10 speed HG freehubs fit MTB 11spd cassettes as the sprocket can be inboard of the inner hub flange a little. I've got numerous 10spd wheels with 11spd Shimano/SRAM/Sunrace MTB cassettes on without issue. They changed the width of the free hub marginally to accommodate road 11spd cassettes, so any...

I bet everyone on here has v-brakes languishing in their parts box, right? So did I until about 5 years ago...now I need to buy some back. I'm after a set of Shimano ones to swap out the cantis on my tandem now my kids are approaching being tall enough to ride as stoker. Shaf

I haven't done it but I think the 500 in a one-er route goes East-west from Bristol sort of along the M4 corridor, correct? If so, the A roads in mid and north Wales are a very different experience to the middle of England.

Re: BCM / Bryan Chapman route

My palmares: I've ridden what I would describe as the 'classic' Chapman 600 5 or 6 times between 2007 and 2016 when Mark Rigby was running it, done Richie Tout's alternative finish (retracing the the first 100k for the last 100k, dull) in 2019 and done Mark Rigby's more recent 600 from Tewkesbury in...

Re: Recommend me new rims

Replaced my dented P35s with DT 481 which have been indestructible. Also have DT XC and road rims which are equally good. Would go with the 581 if I was rebuilding, and they come with nipples as standard.

No idea about 12 speed, but I have two bikes running ultegra 1x11 Di2 that work fine without a front derailleur. Before hydraulic brakes the Di2 shifters used to be cheap as chips as they were just micro switches. However, I would get the LH shifter anyway as you can program any switch to do any shi...

Lots of tubes = not light. Plus Moulton owners rip you a new one if you enquire about their folding bike. Moulton's separate for travel, not fold.

Re: Folding Bikes - Experiences..

With a bit of fettling that will make a great car boot bike as it will fold in half and ride pretty well. You can usually retrofit 650b gravel width wheels/tyres to 26" bikes if that's your thing. For suitcase packing I've tried a 26" wheeled Ibis T26 (formally called something less pleasa...
