Re: Christmas presents

If someone wants to buy me a gift, I'd rather they chose it based on what they think I might like. Careful. My wife once got a headboard for her bed from her parents. She still rages about it 40 years later My family's version of this is the Morph bookends I got from the sister in law 20 years ago....

Re: Recommend me a REAR wheel

Ditto have reused spokes loads of times. In fact, being able to rebuild weird stuff with random old spokes was why I taught myself to build wheels in the first place. I have a never-ridden WTB i30 32h 29er rim hanging in my garage...how about teaching yourself to build wheels by starting easy and do...

Multi-day bikepacking on tricky terrain and with plenty of hike a bike though....Any advice?
Trail running shoes and flat pedals.

Won't cost you much time pedalling, but hugely better for hikeabike and general comfort, and also lots of wide foot options and sizes.

The Squares on Veloviewer might be good though I can't really seem to get it to work... do I need to be a paid up Strava member? I've paid the £10 for Veloviewer but can only see 25 squares. Not keen on forking out for Strava I'm not a paid up Strava user and Veloviewer works well for me - I normal...

Re: WTD - Mojo

I lost my mojo in January. After an unexpected 6 months of rebuilding the back of my house (still not finished) I've done 600 miles this year compared with 4000+ every previous year since 2006. I've spent years motivating myself to do the psychologically tough winter miles to stay on top of fitness ...

Re: (Winter) bib tights....over bib shorts?!!

I can't get over the thought that if I have pockets on the side of my shorts I'm using energy to lift whatever is in them every pedal stroke. Jersey pockets for wallet, phone, jelly beans and bike bags for everything else.

Re: (Winter) bib tights....over bib shorts?!!

Not necessarily during multiday rides as I tend to only do those between April and September, but I ride all winter, road and XC MTB, in bib shorts and whatever unpadded roubaix longs/biblongs I have over the top. However, this is almost entirely because I have quite a few pairs of Assos and R apha ...

Re: Sram T Type Axs - Any real world reviews?

I've run Di2 cabled 11spd on my XC / Bear Bones bike for nearly four years (and road bikes for 6+ years) and have never had a water-related failure even with the push-connector fitting. For multiday rides I can add a LH shifter and set it up to shift the same as the RH one on a 1x setup, giving the ...

I have loads of DT rims and everything works fine. Running 2.25 Vittorias on the 25mm rims and 2.5/2.4 Maxxis on the 30mm rims, both went up tubeless with just the track pump and fitted with just fingers.

700c alternative to Byways

For the last couple of years I've been very happy with 650x47 Byways for the 80/20 road/trail riding I tend to do locally. I'm considering a change to 700c wheels but the Byways only seem to come in narrower variants. Are the 700x40 or 44 similar character to the 650x47, or is there better "all...

Re: Ultralightweight 2season sleeping bag?

Another vote for the Alpkit Pipdream; I've had a 400 for 13 years and it's still fine, used sporadically for 3 seasons use at reasonable comfort for a cold sleeper. I can force it into a 3l drybag if I'm feeling strong but a 5l one is easier.

I've never ridden a Brompton, and i've never seriously considered one as i'm nearly 6'2" and i've no interest in skinny 16inch wheels. However, this looks pretty cool, and i can see it as a bit more versatile multi-terrain traveller. It looks pretty cool, and those discs are dinky! Expensive t...

Re: Rear LED to clip on a bag

I use a Cateye Wearable X on my courier bag when commuting.

It's survived going through the wash after I forgot it was clipped to my jersey pocket a year or two ago, which is a recommendation of sorts.

Quite expensive for what it is though.
