Re: Another Bar tape Q

Cinelli gel tape is the OneTrueBarTape. No adhesive strip, just a silicon-gripper style backing. As Sean says, get it started and it grips under tension, then use a wrap of electrical tape to finish off. Start end should hold itself without tape. I've used it for at least 15 years - road bikes, CX ...

Re: If we close up for a bit...

The only outdoor riding I'm doing is to get to my deserted office out in the countryside (90% of my work can't be done from home, been told I'm a key worker, we'll see if I ever get a letter). Even that puts me on edge, but I'd have to drive it if I don't ride and I'll take a bet there's fuel shorta...

Re: Battling the evil turbo

A bit like trying to stay dry in the rain then being miserable when your jacket inevitably lets water in, I've found the way to be happy(er) on the turbo is not to expect it to be like an outdoor ride.

Or you could try the Peloton personal-trainer-shouting-at-you approach?

I've just done something that I said I'd never do, bought a new turbo trainer! ... Having used these infernal devices in the past and hated them ... disappearing in a pool of sweat and boredom. If you've bought a smart one and remember the good ole bad ole days, you're in for a surprise; some of th...

Re: Wtf: woodchippers, 34t chainring and Shimano road shifters

Possibly after some shimano 11 speed road shifters depending on price. Hydro or cable considered. I'm stripping the 105 5800 groupset off my road bike as I have amassed enough Di2 parts to swap out. The drivetrain is probably heading for my TT bike (now all TTs for 2020 have been cancelled  )...

This week: 1) My 7yr old lads immediate addiction to Zwift when I put his bike on my direct-drive turbo to prove to him that isolation wouldn't be as bad as he thinks; 2) Buying a load of packets of veg seeds then realising what that must look like at the supermarket till (the missus just suggested ...

Re: Camera Phones (Sorry)

For those in the know because never having had a phone, I know nowt - if I wanted something to take pictures with would a refurb pixel 2 for around £110 be a worthwhile purchase? Really not bothered about the phone side of things. Yes. The phone side of a Pixel 2 isn't too bad either. Hang around e...

Also why I kept hold of my Luxys for 12 months longer than I should. It's nice to have nice things. Like a personal museum.

Re: Camera Phones (Sorry)

Got sick of paying big money for crap phones, so last year I took a punt on a second hand Pixel 2 for £100. Best phone pictures I've ever taken and best £300 I've ever saved (spent it on bike parts natch).

Ragley Luxy bars

Reckon it's time to let my Ragley Luxy bars go. On one hand I didn't get on with them so they didn't get used a great deal, on the other hand I've held onto them for 12 months since they were removed from my Gryphon because it's impossible to find a pair for sale... ...and yet here is your rare oppo...

Re: Full carbon disc brake CX frameset

Sorry for delay in replying...It will easily clear a 700x32 slick with mudguards, and for the TINAT audax in 2018 I had a pair of 37mm Schwalbe G-Ones (no 'guards) that fit with plenty of room to spare.

Pics I have to hand coming up...

Re: Smallest frame bag?

The old Jandd framebag might be the sort of thing you want, although they were always hard to find as I'm not sure they were ever sold in the UK? I borrowed this one off my mate for the BB200 in 2015 (the rolled up strapping isn't part of it, that was my hikeabike solution):

Generally they don't like wind, heavy rain or bright light. Apparently the summer of 2018 was so hot that they were trapped several metres above the ground due to the thermals! Regularly work on the west coast of Scotland...both Argyll and Skye areas. My experience of summer 2018 was consistent lat...

Re: WTD: hydraulic disk brakes. Hope etc.

I have a pair of Shimano SLX from (I reckon they are M665 but would have to check) that worked perfectly but got replaced by some XT ones a few years ago and have sat in my spares box ever since. I expect they would need a bleed, but otherwise ok. Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Re: LeJOG audax-style anyone?

https://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/20-998/ Crackpot looks like a good alternative to the Mille Pennine. Do you know if there are overnight controls on this? The info seems sketchy about that. Also, it seems that this isn't AAA although it looks like it has enough climbing to be... I wonder if it ...

Actually just thinking of just planning a ride in the SW instead, Lost Lanes and sea side towns etc. https://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/20-998/ Tailor-made alternative. The opposite of the Audax LEJOG, a considerable chunk of the route will be on lanes that haven't seen a car yet this year. That ...

Re: I could get one made, but... steel Audax/fast tourer frame/set wanted, ~57-58

Built for 28s with mudguards. Would probably get 32s without 'guards but remember the limiting factor will be the brake calipers unlike 2020 disc brake framesets.
