Going through the gpx file...
1st question: is the route on the east side of Garreg-ddu reservoir on the road (and the gpx file just wanders a bit), or is there an offroad track?

Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?
I'm already considering the same thing, only in my case poor conditions = no chance of a sub-24hr badge = bring the indestructible singlespeed bike and some more kit to at least enjoy the weekend a bit more.

I've also nearly bought a Squirt in the past, mainly as I wanted a set of small pliers for trailside brakepad changes.
Otherwise, my trust old (but not the lightest) Topeak Hummer and low-end swiss army knife combo does everything else I need.

Re: The post man's been ...
I've used a Van Nic Ti seatpost on my audax road bike for about 5 years. It does help smooth out the buzz (mostly used with a Ti-railed Brooks though, so maybe not the whole story). My only slight niggle is with the clamp design. I've managed to rotate the saddle nose-down a couple of times when cau...

Some of my go-to items after years of sterling service:
Fenix L2D / LD20 etc torches
Chris King headsets
Michelin Krylion Carbon road tyres (23 or 25mm)
Topeak Hummer multitool (including the best chainsplitter I've ever used)

Re: 8g micro meths stove.
I'm interested in one as well.
I've never had much success with homebrew coke can stoves, probably due to my cackhanded production, so a cheap, small stove built by someone more professional might put meths back on the options list.

When are you opening up for entries? Sounds like it's going to be a blink-and-you've-missed-out year this year and I think I've provisionally booked the Friday off work.

Are you planing on some gears for this Chris, or going SS with the old 24" as backup?
Looks like a good week. I'd be pestering you to join in if I wasn't lapping 24/12 or working in July.

A lot of climbing on SDW Paul as we found out. What did happen to your brakes? The amount of climbing wasn't necessarily the problem, it was the gradients later on.... ;) Hope Mono Mini; the chain of events I suspect was: bent clip part fell off end of pads retaining pin on bumpy fast descent, pads...

Re: New frame
If you are always going with a derailleur I would discount EBB-equipped frame like my Singular Swift. You're just adding weight and complexity you'll never use. A Rohloffed Swift might be quite nice though (Ollie W style?) Funnily enough I was musing about fitting some gears for another SDW attempt ...

Re: Summer Solstice ... anyone actually do owt?
We had a Purbecks Solstice ride planned, just 18 miles but no lights / evening ride.
Binned it because of the weather.
I got sunburnt arms out on the road bike on Tuesday, so at least I saw a little bit of the summer on a bike. :(

Re: The bailout option?
I agree with the 'don't plan bailout options' ethos. I've ridden through too many bad patches in years of audax riding; there's always a good patch on the other side, and you get mentally stronger every time you don't bail. I'm trying my first 24hr at Bonty 24/12 in a couple of weeks. I have the sam...

Re: A definitive list of long distance rides...?
Prologue - Wessex Ridgeway Double - I can’t find if it has it been ridden or a time? Do you have 'official' start and finish points fo this? I live close to the north Dorset part, and have often considered a Wessex Ridgeway Dorset Double from the Dorset/Wiltshire border to the sea at Lyme Regis and...

Re: Stan's ZTR Crest Rims
I have a feeling I read about a faulty batch of Schwalbes that wouldn't go onto rims or something similar. If it was MTBers complaining it must've been on STW somewhere. ;) I quantify my statement by saying my Ralphs are the slightly older evo snakeskin ones that On One were doing for ~£20 each last...

29er Crests here.
No problems at all getting Schwalbe Racing Ralph (2.2"), Nobby Nic (2.2") or Bonty MudX (2.0") on.
I've also successful fitted a 35mm CX Racing Ralph tubeless on them, again easy to fit.

Had a quick glance at the Cannock section (cos I was riding there on Friday) on the bikehike link. I was interested the route was fairly convoluted across the Chase, but not on the Follow the Dog or Monkey Trail. So I downloaded the xml file; that shows the route going straight across the Chase, mos...

My Inbred is 26lb without any gear on Remove the suspension and the gears. There's 4lb saved straight away. No winking smiley; I doubt the top ten had many gears or suspension between them (I've seen the picture of Ian's 33lb setup and he certainly didn't). Or you could go to extremes like Chris 'T...
