Re: Bivvy a month 2020.

As has been discussed elsewhere, I am 'GO' for BAM 2020 :-bd My back is finally healed sufficiently that I'm willing to risk ruining it all over again  So..... Wednesday evening it is on (very much like the fabled Donkey Kong)! The weather says it'll be dry all week and Wednesday night it'll li...

Re: Reading glasses - a revelation!!!!

I'm short-sighted (so the opposite problem for me) but.....my parents have both just been told that they've massively worsened their eyes by using cheap supermarket 'reading glasses' for years that were wrong for them and so did more harm than good. No problem with cheap reading glasses if they're t...

White is Mrs Gairy and the green is me :-bd

We'll see how it pans-out but I'll not be surprised if she goes away and I don't

(not sure why she wrote "and weekend" but I just copied it for continuities sake)

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

Yep, that'll do nicely :-bd

Cripes! Only 23 days left for my back to heal sufficiently and for the weather to play nicely (only the first one is actually necessary).....

Good luck to us both!

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

Hang on, I'm confused. I thought initially that it was just each of us stumping up charity cash if the other succeeded (so said £100 to make it a sufficiently motivating amount) but then you said..... I'm up for that, £100* To a charity of your choice if I fail BAM, you pay a £100 to a charity of my...

Hi. Is anyone planning on going together of these?
Little surprise that I'll be entering the TT again - my annual tradition of eating/drinking my way through stunning countryside on a bike looks set to continue :-bd

Re: Tuscany Trail or Veneto Trail?

The Veneto Gravel route is mostly über flat but the Veneto Trail route is much hillier and more mountain bike territory.

I've ridden (sections of) the former 5 times now and love it!

I've heard the Veneto Trail route is fairly full-on but really good.

Re: Stats for the year (that was)

A fairly uninspiring year numbers-wise but some cracking moments in there if I think back. You can see my periods of back injury as well as when my school started in September (almost no riding since) but next year is another story.... Oh boy will I go nice places and do good things!!! http://blog.g...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

What ever suits you best. I'm completely free. If January is unlikely for you, we could try March. (L. has some time to play with in February - so I'm trying to keep it free in order to spend time with her.) Ok, great. I'm well up for a nice little trip but need to see what's possible. I'll take a ...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

This will be the third new year that my goal is to cease to be a useless fat git and so far, each year, I've ended up girthier than I started. You just need to come on holiday with me. Significant weight loss and becoming fitter guaranteed  Jura trip mid/end of January? As a start... Mate, y...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

Gairy, how about doing it a different way. Let's say you need to complete BAM, if you fail you wear a tutu/mankini out on New Years Eve? You could also donate double to charity If you fail - double whammy! Nice try but it'll take more than that to get me to go out on New Year's Eve - my usual goal ...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

Ok Gairym I’m up for that, £100* To a charity of your choice if I fail BAM, you pay a £100 to a charity of my choice if I complete it and vice versa (I think that works :-bd ) only stipulation is I’m not giving money to the f*****g Tories. * Amount negotiable. Ok, great you're on BUT.....let...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

What about if you achieve your goal everyone else who joins in has to pay that donation between them all, regardless if they themselves have completed their challenge or not. If it’s all done equally then the worst case scenario is you pay (ever so slightly less than) double your pledge, and that’s...

Re: Carrot/Stick idea.....

I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this, but it seems to me that if you need to set yourself a penalty for not hitting the goals you have set yourself... you are setting the wrong goals. Goals should be something that inspire us to do things not beat us into doing them. I totally see where y...

Carrot/Stick idea.....

Evening all, I hope everyone is recovering nicely from the seasons excesses - I managed to stay fairly sensible this year despite having family out and being mildly incapacitated with a flare up of my back problem (boo!). But.....I'm on the mend (rode this evening which was much needed!) and been th...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

I've got three to list: 1. My favourite all time stroll down memory lane bike/era choice. 2. The bike I think I enjoyed riding the most. 3. The one that got away. Ok, here goes..... First up it has to be my 1996 Marin 'Mount Vision' - the summer of seemingly endless days riding (Steetly quarry near ...

I'll still be in full time (re)education until the end of June, then it's two months of kid holidays and so not likely I'll be able to do anything multi-day until September at the earliest. Not ideal motivation to get out and put the miles in over the crappier months - boo! Good effort sir and like I said, not trying to start a fight :-bd

I took issue as the stand alone comment made it sound like business as usual disposable ecocidal culture but certainly not attacking anyone personally and I hear what you're saying.

Re: Another fancy toolkit

thats not mid ride though and I suppose its handy to have in a ightweight package but i wont be taking a pedal spanner with me any time soon when i go riding If flying i would just ditch the allen key and buy another at the end /go to a shop/garage etc/rather than carry one I wont need on the ride....

Re: Quick bit of wet weather kit advice.....

What is the planned accommodation, or can't you say on a bivi forum? I'm not too proud to admit when I'm going beerglampacking™ It's Airbnb all the way! It'll be really populated where we'll be spending each night (as über high quality craft pubs weirdly haven't reached the wilderness yet). ...
