Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

I've got three to list: 1. My favourite all time stroll down memory lane bike/era choice. 2. The bike I think I enjoyed riding the most. 3. The one that got away. Ok, here goes..... First up it has to be my 1996 Marin 'Mount Vision' - the summer of seemingly endless days riding (Steetly quarry near ...

Re: What you doing next year?

I'll still be in full time (re)education until the end of June, then it's two months of kid holidays and so not likely I'll be able to do anything multi-day until September at the earliest. Not ideal motivation to get out and put the miles in over the crappier months - boo! But.....my final ma...

Good effort sir and like I said, not trying to start a fight :-bd

I took issue as the stand alone comment made it sound like business as usual disposable ecocidal culture but certainly not attacking anyone personally and I hear what you're saying.

Re: Another fancy toolkit

thats not mid ride though and I suppose its handy to have in a ightweight package but i wont be taking a pedal spanner with me any time soon when i go riding If flying i would just ditch the allen key and buy another at the end /go to a shop/garage etc/rather than carry one I wont need on the ride....

Gairyman......if your going North Italia, and it's flat, that means the Po delta....does it...??? I'm following the lower section of the Veneto Gravel event route. Did Verona to Rovigo yesterday and then on up to Mestre today and am now sat in a lovely craft beer pub in Venice. After much considera...

Re: Quick bit of wet weather kit advice.....

What is the planned accommodation, or can't you say on a bivi forum? I'm not too proud to admit when I'm going beerglampacking™ It's Airbnb all the way! It'll be really populated where we'll be spending each night (as über high quality craft pubs weirdly haven't reached the wilderness yet). ...

Re: Quick bit of wet weather kit advice.....

Thanks all, so we've narrowed it down to definitely one of the original two options :-bd I'm leaning towards lighter gear and nice warm dry clothes for the evenings. Problem is that I've only really got either end of the spectrum so I'm fully committed to whichever one I go for. Still, either way I'...

Quick bit of wet weather kit advice.....

I'm heading off for four days of gentle beerpacking at the weekend. ~100km per day of Northern Italy (all flat cycle paths and quiet back roads). BUT it's going to rain all day every day (best forecast is 'light showers' for one of the days). It'll also be about 13-15°c with light winds (~10kph up t...

Having put close to 5,000km on my Escapade I'll give my brief thoughts: Only 3500km on mine so I'll give briefer thoughts..... I love mine!!! Nowt wrong with the cdf but it's a much heavier tank of a thing and much less fun to ride. I too am a fan of Cy and Cotic bikes (as well as my Escapade I'm c...

Re: Padded shorts: yay, or nay?

I'm with Stu on this, rode the Tuscany Trail last year in padded bibs under my usual baggies and it resulted in trip ending bruising. I did all of my pre-trip riding (training is too strong a word) in baggies with Merino boxers and then, for some daft reason, decided to wear some merino padded...

Re: Fatfighters 2019 Weigh-in Thread

Sorry, I'm guilty of dropping the ball on this one. Life has been a bit full and I've not made time to keep on top of this thread.

Currently home alone with three little buggers but I'll find a minute this evening to do my weigh-in ( ) and get back on top of the spreadsheet.....

First off, ten bonus points to the first person who gets the reference..... I don't get mine out if there's >10cm of fresh snow Err, did you really mean "more than 10cm"? Nope. :-bd I don't get it out if there's more than ~20cm of fresh snow but between 10-20cm is great. And the dream is obviously a rideable crust but those only come around a few times per season.

Re: Do I 'need' a fat bike?

I've been around a few fatbikes and my two cents worth is that they're absolutely brilliant and what they're best at, great/fun at a lot of stuff and horrific in a few instances. If the "wintery ride in Scotland" involves snow then yes, you probably do need one. But if not then you might really enjo...

Re: Gravel tyre that plays nice with Stans rims

I’m swapping the wheels on my gravel bike from wtb rims to stans iron cross. Currently have 40c nanos on and I like them a lot. I know from previous experience they won’t play nice with the stans rims (far too tight) so wondering if anyone has used anything similar to a 40c nano without issues on a...

Do we know if there any consistency in trail type or is it just a mixed bag meaning that realistically you'd be best off to ride a MTB for those sections that need it and then be a bit slower on the rest?

Definitely piqued my interest.....
