Re: WRT - Thank you

Thanks....as always it was an excellent event that allowed me to explore places that I wouldn't normally consider. Cake, atmosphere, chat and banter all 1st class. Thanks also to Will & ?? (Terrible with names) for allowing us to share their bivvy spot and fire. Some shots below. https://www.fli...

Re: The post man's been ...

It's taken a while, but was worth the wait, a lot of very nice details. Should hopefully have it up and running in a couple of weeks.

Re: The BB 200 Thread

I'll hope to be at the campsite by 7:30pm on Fri so will probably get there after 8:00. I'll be in a blue T4 camper. A change of bike and a change of approach for this year's event. :) Image

Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?

All prepped and ready to go. I loaded up my bike last night with all the kit including food and water and was really happy with the set-up and weight. Last year I consumed around 4,000 cal of food and so this year I'm carrying around 4,500 cal of food and 1250ml of water so will expect to refill at ...

Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?

I'm on a 29er rigid. I did the Kielder 100 a couple of years ago and my lasting memory is that the trails are all made up of brick sized rocks that beat you up around most of the course. BB200 terrain I think is not as rough as Kielder combined with some paved and bog I would go for the hard tail to...

Re: How is everyones BB200 prep going?

Kit prep is going much better than physical prep...bike and kit should be at least 5kg lighter this year, which sounds quite impressive but is in fact an indication of how much I overpacked last year.....! I have to get a black badge this year, missed it by 500m/hour last year...500m....500m...! You...

Re: UK self supported events What next?

I agree with Ian and prefer that these type of events stay low key. I applied the same strategy re: CL300 and will follow the EWE progress with interest, but will be amazed if my negotiating skills with Mrs P will enable me to make the start. Really like Aidan's strategy of using peoples local exper...

Flatfishy, I'm sure I've missed the boat on this one but if you can get hold of some spot trackers and have any left I'd certainly like to have one!

Re: Almost glad to have the biting things back!

So, as free time leading up to BB200 is becoming increasingly difficult to find I decided that the only way of getting a ride in with some decent miles would be to start early. I headed off at 4:30 this morning down the Wayfarers Walk towards Winchester. Fantastic 5 hour ride and back in time for el...

Re: BB 200 Kit List

Ian, kit list is looking good.

Agreed, just like the WRT, different people will want to achieve different things from this event and so the variety of essentials that will be carried will vary accordingly.

Re: If fat bikes were cheaper ...

I really like the 'Jones style' that On One have adopted for their fat bike, will be interested to see how much they will retail for. Hopefully it will take them a couple of years to get it production ready so that I have more time to save ;) http://www.on-one.co.uk/news/products/q/date/2011/09/09/f...

Re: BB 200 Kit List

Gents, as a appears to be the trend here, I plan on taking only items that I would normally take out on a day long ride, along with the must have sleeping bag, bivvy and lights. On the last WRT I took no change of clothes as in reality I found that putting fresh, dry clothes only makes a difference ...

Re: Great Orme to Worm's Head

I think you're right date wise, should still have at least 12 hours of light per day. I now need to enter serious negotiations with Mrs. P to achieve a pass out. Are you thinking Thu/Sun or mid-week. I also need to try and get a frame bag made up in around 4 weeks, any idea where I can get one? ;) W...

Re: Mach' winter bivvy.

Just checked out some of the photos on Ian's link to last year's trip. Conditions looked spot on for a proper winter trip. I have of course now got a pair of bar mitts that I won on the WRT raffle and so need to get some serious use out of them. Did you hunter / gatherers not get a good a camp fire ...

I really like the sound of that, but pass-outs are of a premium this late in the year. What is your gut feeling on dates?

Hi Singlespeed, did you manage to do the trail. I'd certainly like to do it at some time....maybe one for next year!

Re: Singlespeed?

Last 2 WRT's were done on single speeds and they performed flawlessly. Get the gearing right for your style / ability give the chain a drop of oil each morning and it's good to go. The bike is lighter, quieter and smoother as a result.
