Re: New frame
The Pace 129 is a cracking fun bike to ride, very nimble for a 29er and makes me smile lots, it looks superb too, but I wouldnt say its ideal for bikepacking. Part of what makes it fun is that the frame is very compact for the size, hence only room for 1 bottle and you'd only get a small frame bag i...

Mike halls round the world kit
A good read http://road.cc/content/news/59716-mike- ... record-kit
It might make you feel better about your bike weighing 40lb off road too.

Re: Rain Jackets?
I've got an Event jacket which is a pucka bike model and although good for short periods the rain always finds its way in. Sunday I used my Finistiere anabiotic, I think it's called. No fancy vents and the like, but it had a hood that covers your helmet when it really gets bad. After all day riding ...

Gore waterproof shorts were superb, (thanks to pedalhead for that discount link) all day of rain and still sat in the pub with a dry backside, recommended. Pleased with my Dynamo hub setup, feeds a small Duracell USB pack which then keeps the garmin running, it was always showing 100% charged whenev...

We were just leaving the field in the van yesterday & saw Jack on what must have been the heaviest bike of the weekend... That's friendship for you! (Or was there some bribery involved?) :D I had a dinner date 3 hrs drive away so walking was not an option. :o Sean's drive side crank bolt gave u...

Re: Gone very quiet.
Had a great night at the railway inn last night, then found a good Bivy spot a short wet hop away. Early start and rode up and over from the lake Vrywyn (sp) and now enjoying a cooked breakfast in the cafe at Foel before the final trek back over for cake. See u about 12.30 I reckon. We did an anti c...

Re: Spare carrying capacity?
I take a light drawstring helmet bag, seem to have several from motorcycle helmets or bike helmets and even freebies from events, ultimate source give out loads. One string loop over each shoulder and pretty stable on the bike, not waterproof or fancy material and no attatchment to them if I overloa...

Neat looking solution there if your happy with it, looks very sturdy.
Personally that would annoy the hell out of me rubbing on my legs.

To some degree coupled with the level of "suffering" your prepared to endure for not having say a cooker, or mattress or tarp or warmer clothes. Cost too of course. Personally my whole working life in engineering revolves around having adequate spares, and preparing for all feasable senari...

Re: How much stuff can you get in your frame bag?
I've always been a bit disappointed with how little I can get in my frame bag. It looks a decent space but the shape is a bit restrictive, I guess I'm just a messy packer. Tend to use it just for those odds and sods like some above. Food, cooker, batteries, personals, poles, pegs, and tools, spares....

Re: MYOG solid bar bag mount rack.
Ray good ideas on two spars, The middle one does make it considerably stronger we think as it forms the triangulation with the top mount. Just two spars means all the weight is supported by the top cross piece which causes it to twist easier, but then if they were really close to centre that would b...

Re: MYOG solid bar bag mount rack.
That's a neat bracket mark might have to try something like that too. Hole in the mount is only M6 and the bolts stainless, the Hope ally bolt is a fat one anyway. Good to hear your fears but there is no movement in the top bar at all in use. with the moment of force being downwards the distance bet...

Re: MYOG solid bar bag mount rack.
It's fixed on one of hopes fork bungs, the weight is supported by the stem mainly not the steerer.

MYOG solid bar bag mount rack.
But some might call it a basket  The Widcat bar harness is solid in use, but I have problems keeping the bags off of the front tyre in use. I like my front bounce on the soft side and run low bars, the two just dont mix and in the Cairngorms i just got away with it. A friend came up with an ide...

Re: Cairngorms Loop this weekend
My rambling tale of the ride with some quite poor pictures, It does star Rob Wickes and Tom Hill though to add some colour  I'm a touch worried at the battering my hands seem to have taken from that ride, no pain, just really poor levels of grip strength even 5 days later. Had to get someone to...

I have an old colour Etrex, and the limitation of the low number of points you can use per saved route (500) are a limitation, so be wary of that if buying secondhand for really old ones. Question for those with he new Etrek 20's and 30's are they seen as a drive when you plug them into your PC so y...

Re: Adding Water Bottle Cages to Bicycles
I can highly recommend the King stem mounted bottle carrier holder, cheap and simple and puts the bottle in a very usefull place within easy reach. Only problem I can see is that it messes up your stem mounted gizmos location and you can't put your top tube mounted goodie bags on with them.

Well done mate. Sounds like an epic ride. What kit were you carrying? Too much! Not knowing the area or having a plan I opted to cover most possible conditions. Tarp, bivy, bag spare clothes, even spare gloves. I took loads of food too. With the food on board my kit was actually heavier than for a 4...

Well that was nuts, amazing trails and some real slogging sections. Mental time from Aiden, well done to him. I set off relaxed at the back and then seemed to spend Saturday hovering people up as they stopped. By the high point at the Avon refuge I passed Kevin who said the only two up front were Ai...

All good stuff, resses peanut butter cups are one I always look for, and I'll often go for the tux crackers and a quick open small tin of mackerel or other fish in sauce for an attempt at balanced diet. Chinese is a very good point and usually pretty quick too, and you can eat some ribs cold later :...
