Re: Advice please - Converting a commuter to a gravel bike

I've got an alfine 8 on my Pinnacle Arkose. I maintain it well and have had zero issues with it. 5000 miles in and it's had 2 new chains (cheap single speed ones). Just had it back from it's first hub service and the mechanic showed me photos of the internals. It looks as new as the day it left the ...

Re: Cheap ways to Scotland

I've done the coach to Aviemore from London Victoria. £50 return if I remember. Goes overnight and they'll take a bike bag. I used a ctc polythene job and then one of the outdoor shops kindly looked after it for me whilst I did the Cairngorm outer loop. It's a horrible journey as long coach journeys...

https://s26.postimg.org/w4jq3xok9/IMG_20170927_131441.jpg So, all the bits arrived. Opted for a new cassette too so wheel swapping would be faster. Went out for a ride tonight and now the Stooge is an absolute hooligan! It's draggy and slow uphill, as you'd expect coming from hope xc wheels but it ...

Re: Going rigid? Or not

I just bought a rigid fork that fit the head tube and then when I got used to riding without suspension, bought a Stooge frame set.
Nothing technical really, it's just bike riding.

Re: 650b+ worth it?

Thanks all. I've taken the plunge and ordered a rumpus wheelset and a couple of 3" trail boss tyres. With rotors and valves, the whole lot has cost around £220 so worth a punt.
I'll let you know how it goes. If I hate it, I know who to blame

650b+ worth it?

Now the hype has died down a bit, do people think this it works?
I've read Stu's blog. Am contemplating picking up a set of Alpkit rumpus wheels and some WTB plus tyres for my Stooge. I've currently got hope xc 29er wheels with 2.3 ish tyres on.
Worth the change?

Re: B&M LUXOS U & Toplight Line Plus

I have the b&m luxos USB and a b&m rear light (can't remember which) . Not sure what more I can say aside from that they work!
Rear is really bright. Front is bright enough for road riding.
I like the fit and forget nature of them.

Re: One bike?

I've got 5 with 2 currently up for sale (boardman cx and radon full suss). Will leave me with a high end road bike, stooge and arkose alfine. For the type of riding I do, I'd be happy to just have either the stooge or arkose as my only bike. If I was forced to just keep one, it'll be the Arkose. Nan...

Re: How's your year panning out?

My year started in the worst possible way. Found out that the wife was having an affair with my mate since last summer. Went off the rails, gave up on everything really. Kids gave me a reason to pull myself together so I spent a lot of time on my bike getting perspective while being around for them....

Wouldn't say so really. Interested in learning more but think it's an opportunity to spend more time with the kids doing outdoor stuff. Maybe combine a bit of camping with bushcraft activities.
