Re: Snow ride
Loads in London, went on the bike yesterday for a couple of hours, think I must have been able to freewheel for 15 seconds tops the whole ride. Loved the snow Very little freewheeling for me too. Think I only covered around 7 miles! Was like riding through sand. Nice to be out, away from it all tho...

Re: Snow ride
It was just close to home in Croydon (Shirley Hills view point). Despite the bad press, Croydon isn't too bad a place to ride. It's close enough to Surrey that there's good access to a network of bridleways linking home to the North Downs and then onto the South Downs. I'm lucky enough to have a few...

Re: Which vest?
Cheers guys. I like the look of the Patagonia Down Jacket but I was really after a vest as I already have a Filo Jacket which I would take if expecting bad weather and I would just forfeit the extra weight. I do see that Patagonia do a vest so, given the choice, should I get: Rab Microlight Vest Rab...

Re: Sleeping bag stuff sacks?
I guess if you save lots of little grams they all add up into big grams eventually.....
Compression is an issue though, although I guess if I have room to let the bag breath a bit, it'll loft better.

Re: budget sleeping bag - the sequel
I took a punt on a Eurohike 500 down bag from Millets which was "apparently" RRP'd at £120. Got it for £40ish in their sale. No idea on actual down quality as it came with no specs but is to EN*blah*blah* and rated into minus figures so it might have been worth a gamble. Haven't used it ou...

Sleeping bag stuff sacks?
Do people generally bother carrying a stuff sack if their sleeping bags are going inside a dry bag?

Re: Which vest?
Thanks Stu.
I've already got a Filo jacket but was thinking more towards the Spring and possibly for something to put on in an evening on the WRT if it turns chilly whilst bivvying. What were temperatures like last year?
I liked the idea of the Rab vests because they pack into their own pockets.

Which vest?
Although Rab C Nesbitt has a cracking vest, I'm looking for something a bit more suitable for bivvying.
It will be used to boost my sleeping bag and for lounging around camp.
So far am torn between the Rab microlight and generator.
Thinking sub 300g and sub £100

I figure that if I need to treat water on the wrt, I'll carry tabs or boil it.

Living in South London anything will probably taste better than the crap Thames Water send through our taps.

Re: Water Filter
I hadn't really thought much about filtering water. Is it likely to be that much off an issue on the WRT?
I used the tabs in cadets and I remember them making the water taste of chemicals.
Would pouring it through a buff and then boiling it not be enough?

I'd be up for a PB ride in Sept.
I could stay at the in laws at either end of the ride.

Re: Caldera Cone Where to Buy
What makes you guys favour this kind of stove? Is it purely weight? I've got a meths burner with stand but find it quite messy to use in the fact that the pan/cup ends up sooty and I had the meths leak in my bag. I've just got an MSR just to make life simpler (and I like buying stuff). To be fair, I...

My stuff has already turned up this week.
Msr pocket rocket (have given up on meths after it leaked in my bag) and a Merkur DE safety razor but that's not very outdoorsy!

I love the idea of it and having read some of the stories on blogs it sounds amazing but a little boat in the water makes me think too much about Jaws.
