Clothing repairs

Post by Pickers »

I've managed to tear a hole in my jacket, a Montane Prism.
The tear looks like two sides of a 100mm square. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting a repair done please?

Not sure where you are but the Patagonia Worn Wear team will be at next weekends Llanberis Film Festival offering free repairs on all brands. I'll be there as I've got film being shown there :-bd

Mcnett Tenacious Tape is good for repairs, noticeable but solid.

I have a number of garments held together by the stuff!

I think SiL is too slick for most tape. Seam sealer will do the job though.

Sounds like there's a story to be told Colin!

I've used gorilla tape on the inside of a ripstop fabric (my dog's winter coat), one piece on each side of the rip. She hasn't complained about the quality of the repair so I'm assuming it has worked.

Not much of a story. A windy bivvy last night and I used my bike (propped up against a wall) to tie a "lifter" guy to. I woke up about 5am with the tarp flapping against my face, only to discover that the bike had fallen over after too much wind. Luckily, the bar end just missed my head.

Still, it had Ergo IIs on so it would have been a blunt injury rather than a puncture......

Even more so now eh?

Thing is, I'd usually stand the bike upside down (on it's bars/saddle) if I'm fastening a guy to it but there was this handy wall to prop it up against....

The Tufftape that Alpkit do (or did) works well. Quite a few repairs on the house clothing done with it.

My experience of Tenacious Tape and Silnylon indicates it doesn't work. I think they do a special product for Sil-fixes. I used slightly diluted seam sealant and a patch of Sil to repair. This worked well.

OK, this arrived in the post this morning, let's see how we get on.....

Looks like similar tape to the one one from Alpkit that Greg suggested (thanks Greg) - the site wouldn't let me order so I guess they don't stock it anymore.
