I'm in shock, genuine disbelief and shock.

As someone who knows Mike quite well (first started riding with him years ago, drank his beer, sat on his sofa, been round mine for a BBQ etc...) I simply cannot believe this.

So sad. I never met him but he was a real inspiration through documentaries and dot following. along with other I'd been following and wishing him on all the way.

Gutting to hear this, never met him but he was one of the reason I started road riding after seeing the first TCR and thinking how amazing it looked. Really tragic news.

The universe is utter rubbish sometimes.

A hero may have fallen today but the inspiration he brought will live on forever

Just finished watching it. Not really sure how I feel about it.

One thing is certain, they definitely didn't do justice to the distance covered. You'd barely know how long / hard that race was.

Watched it the other day and am still digesting it all. I agree with Richard that it does not do justice to the distances covered. One thing I found interesting was, watching the scenes in NSW, where Mike and Kristof meet at night, they didn't seem to have any reflective gear on. They just had a blinky light on the rear. I've done loads of Audax and we have to wear vests, ankle bands etc. I wonder if it was a case of for the purposes of filming they removed it. The camera's would have had a tough time with all that reflective stuff in terms of exposures and such.

It was interesting hearing from Mike's friends at the service in the UK (York ?) I'd have liked to have met him and had a cup a tea with him.

I now have the super reflective tape on my helmet, camelbak and seat stays.

Sure, I shouldn't have to, but I still feel a lot safer when I'm as visible as possible.

Anyone got a link to purchase some of that there tape stuff?

Thinking I should upgrade my visibility now the dark nights are here for a while.

Cheers, Gairy.

All of bikes are covered in it. Many good sources. Search your favourite online place for 'high intensity reflective tape'

I've used white, orange on cranks, and red on mudguards.

I use the black tape (reflects white) myself

.Although not as reflective as the normal coloured tape, its blends in with the bike so much better and works when you need it. Just dont get the cheap stuff, it works but not as well as the 3M branded stuff.

To say that Kristof's account of the IPWR is a bit dry would be a big understatement.
The guy doesn't like to let his emotions show that much does he?

Particularly when you look at the distances he covered each day....
Its dryness does make it compelling however

It is a fairly pared back account of events. Wonder if writing in a second language is a factor?

I see the 2018 event has been cancelled due to concerns around the inquest and it's timing...
