Anything Cage Mounts on front triangle??

Post by stevenshand »

Hi all,

we've had a few enquiries about having anything cage mounts on the front triangle of a couple of our bikes (under down tube? top of the downtube?) Is this a thing? We did it on a carbon frame but just because it was easy.

Wondering what the BB hive-mind have to say....

One extra hole doesn't do any harm and has two plus points
-you can mount a normal bottle high or low
-magazines and marketing will love it as it screams adventure bike!

If you can do it, then I can't see why not. Think most people would use some form of frame bag over an anything cage on the frame but an extra option sounds good to me

I can see that it would make sense on the underside of the downtube but think a cage mounted on the top of the top-tube would get in the way ... yeah, the DT's a good idea, the TT just seems like a good idea

I could see them being some use on the underside of the down tube. Not sure that I'd use them...

Did I imagine it or had Genesis or Salsa done something like this on their Alu/Steel framed bikes inside the DT last year? I have vague recollections of it on the Powderkeg. I think the Cutthroat has two sets of two inside the DT rather than a set of 2 and one of 3. Can't remember, quite a while since I've made any changes to bottle and bag positions on mine.

Not sure it'd be something I'd want personally, but I can see why it may be useful for some who want to avoid framebags,

My ECR has triple bosses on the inside of the down tube, at the moment i use the lower two for a bottle cage. If you want I can experiment with an anything cage there, my tent might fit there. It also has a normal bottle mount on the underside, this is very useful as I can run a BBB oversized cage to carry a 1.5ltr plastic bottle
We’re all individuals, except me.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

My mukluk has three cage mounts on the down tube and seat tube. As others have said, it means you can fiddle with cage positions. Not sure I'd ever put and anything cage on though as I'd personally go for a frame bag.

my Genesis Longitude has them on the top side of the downtube, not used them, but it was one of the things that swung the decision to get the Longitude.

its worth the flexibility they offer.

I had a set fitted to my Pact - below the downtube. I haven't used them yet but wanted the flexibility of fitting something there in the event I end up with a frame bag. A small triangle means a partial frame bag/one bottle or a full frame bag/no bottles. The former might work best in conjunction with another position under the downtube. I guess the question is - why not?

Adds flexibility/options without much of a weight penalty I'm guessing?

Sounds like a good idea
