2016 Mileage Total

Post by MuddyPete »

A paltry 2687 miles for me in 2016 :-( ; but a slight increase on previous years :-) .
2/3 commuting; 1/3 off-road. Must try harder.
Put me to shame: what's your total?

A few km short of 5500km (nearly 3400 miles) I've cycled this year, the longest ride being 170km. Did two 100 milers and a fair number over 100km.

Not bad considering I was finished from work in 2007 with ME/CFS, been a long struggle back to work and fitness and only able to get back on the bike two years ago.

Really need to get the weight off this year to make more cycling progress.

Around 3200 miles. My new job (which I enjoy for once) meant I couldn't/wouldn't skive as I've done before as for the last 3 years I've hit 5000 miles each year.

But it was nice not to have a target to force myself out for when I couldn't be bothered, as it was hitting my mojo, now I ride when I want to

A thoroughly p*ss poor year for me (numerically speaking).

Lots of adventure and loads of fun had but my fingers entered events my body couldn't finish on a number of occasions.

Here are some numbers:

9132Km with 129,000m of ascent. Slightly down on the last couple of years but much more MTB this year, something like 35%, 35% on the cross bike/commuter and 30% on road.

Not a clue! But I enjoyed (most of) them
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

11,050km with 150,500m climbing - chunk of that being the Tour Divide and training - all off road riding.

Running, 760km and 7,800m climbing - all fell.

Here's mine

The total distance includes 363 miles of running. The distance is nearly 80% more than last year which I'm pleased with. After I moved house in the summer I started commuting by bike in August which has helped a lot. I'd estimate that 60% of the riding was off road and 95% of the running.

I rode about 500km further than last year and a stack more ascent too. Had even more fun and did some hard rides that taught me a lot. Looking forwards to some more fun, and more learning in 2017 too.

Most was on mountain bikes, 1250km on the roadie this year, which I enjoyed...

10,736km/201,193m in 712 hours

Which sounds like quite a lot but sounds more as it works out as a daily ride of 29.4km/550m and nearly two hours. Every day.

I honestly have no idea but estimate it as somewhere between 350 and 700 miles...

I can't really remember much about the first 5 months (my folks were ill, it's a bit of a blur). I know I did ride my bike at times but what and where? I think I was heading out with my mate doing 2-3 hours at a time every other week for a while at least.... (He got a new bike Nov 15)

Did three overnighters though and a couple rides Aviemore way and the Fungle a couple times as well.

Having just ordered up a GPS I guess I'll be able to 'keep score' this year...

I'm pretty happy with it, especially as I suffered from some reasonably meaningful injuries this year.

Hoping to stay injury free in 2017. Is bloody unlikely, but all I can do is hope.

Approx 3200 miles and 42.25 miles of climbing. Not as good as 2015 by a long shot but feel I rode better in 2016 overall. I'd like to top 5K miles for 2017 but we'll see.

12,487km and 132000 metres of ascent. Mostly commuting miles but there is 1500km of ITTs.

Looking forward to a stronger year (not necessarily more miles, but I need to increase strength so will be working on core and leg strength in 2017).

Far too many weeks of no riding at all, brought about by a mixture of silly injuries and bad lifestyle choices. :-bd

Will aim to hit 5000km this year. Want to have plenty of miles under my belt by the time the Dirty Reiver comes around.

So I managed 14,017km / ~8,750 miles about 45% of them off road. My trip to NZ / USA for two months was about 4,000km of those. That was a big year for me as I usually aim for around 11,000km since retiring in 2010.

I don't want to get to wrapped up in the number though as it is all the experiences that get me out. NZ was vaguely exciting of course but I also rode across the Golden Gates bridge and then across Marin County. It was fun riding out to do the De Zeeuw Van Vlaanderen in The Netherlands. Another memorable ride was a training ride I did to see how hard doing 200 miles loaded on the road would be. I had the pick of two days and chose the windier day for additional training benefit. Headwind for the first 115 miles and then on the way home I had a slight breeze in my face so pace never really picked up. 215 miles on my own in something approaching 20 hours to Skeggy and back.

Strava says 2,400Km, so probably nearer 4,000Km. Off road mostly.
I don't generally go for targets/resolutions, but I'm going to at least double that pathetic figure in 2017.
I'm getting old and need to "rage, rage against the dying of the light...."
or summin, maybe.
Blackhound inspired me somewhat in Oct with what he gets out and up to.

That doesn't include walking, running or paddling, all of which I hope to do more of in 2017 so it wouldn't surprise me if I end up doing less cycling as a result.

Skewed towards the roadies...probably 95% of 2016 on road for me; 2017 could turn out to be similar (but hopefully more and faster miles).

8542 miles, no idea in km! But not a lot of elevation now living in Norfolk.

But 90% of that is commuting 36-54 miles a day, so it's nearly all been done on road.

2017 means i have gone back to a car for a lot of my commuting, after a year of doing it by bike so that my miles and rides can be quality, not quantity. So started this year with a beautiful ride along Wells/ Holkham beach and a bivi in the dunes, would be happy if i never saw my road bike again

Some truly stunning achievements in this thread: as inspiring as I hoped it would be.
