Aye that would make a good night out, I've got a few good spots in the Lomond's but never spent a night on top of either of them.

Our Twixmas ride involved following a suggestion of Colin's (Scotroutes) round by Lochs Garry and Rannoch to Ben Alder Cottage. Let's just say that getting back by Bealach Dubh and Culra was "interesting"

A little more info on the "Today's Ride" thread. Windy, boggy and rather damp would be the summary! The burns were rather full with snowmelt so quite a bit of time was spent on the larger crossings dropping boulders into the burns to make stepping "stones" that we could use to cross them. Even so we ended up knee deep in water at times (Cath being a bit shorter than me was thigh deep ) Didn't see anyone from when we left the road by Rannoch Lodge until we got to Ben Alder Lodge, over twenty four hours. Two hard days.

We'd the contents of a small lochan in our boots and everything was sodden so didn't stop up there for a ride tomorrow and cut our losses.

Meant to say that's 10/12 on the bivy count.

I've not done a Solo Wild camp/Bivvy since I was 15 years old, 1977, and only just starting to get some courage to try things myself.
I might be doing it on a really basic level but I am going to try for this challenge. Living in Lancaster I'm close to the Trough of Bowland and not too far South of the South Lakes area. I've got a few decent possible areas to the East, towards Ingleboro' and Dent so I should be able to find a few spots that are suitable for a "Nervous Noob " to try.

Would like to have a go at this as I've been getting a bit soft the last couple of years. Having said that is a tent in the winter months acceptable, night time forecast for here (Hungarian Puszta) is -10 to -15 next week!

Hi folks
My first post, so here's a bit about our local Bivi club.
There are just the two members, but we have entertained the ocasional guest.
Our first club outing was in October 2015 on a spectacularly wet overnighter. We shared a tarp tied to a barbed wire fence on some high ground near Salisbury in a field of cow pats. With wine gums for breakfast and a tough ride home for some strange reason we deemed it a sucess. So our regular monthly meets have continued. Primary goals have been to get a few miles in with some decent off road riding, try a different Pub and Bivi location, and most importantly have a good time.
The Club highlight so far has been the Cairngorms loop which we toured, sticking to the club ethos of enjoying brew ups, and the stunning scenery as we bothied, bivied, rode, pushed and waded are way around.
We are both up for the Bivi a month challenge 2017 and looking forward to what that will entail.
Let's get the January date in the Diary mate.

Mike and myself thought an extended seaside trip was in order, so on New Years day, we set off for the coast with no particular plan and 3 cheese butties. I'll admit that many of the lanes and tracks are a bit of a blur but we did make it to the Pembrokeshire seaside and home again in one piece over the course of 4 days.



As we were representing Bear Bones, we availed ourselves of many pubs, shops and public toilets and generally played up to the 'Two Wheeled Tramp' stereotype.



However, we did draw the line at kipping in a splendid 13th church, so we'll have to go back again at some point.



Skill and cunning combined with a healthy dose of not caring, presented us with superb accommodation each night



and ample photo opportunities throughout the day.



The weather was very kind over the four days, only turning a little murky on today's homeward leg



which was quite exciting because I managed to fall into a ford and then suffered a 30mph rear tyre explosion which resulted in a 50 yard skid.

Anyway, a lovely time was had by all, bivvy a month is off to a good start and it's nice to have 300km in the bag this early in the year.

No, I had some slightly more expensive ones on, however they and my well loved Rab smock did keep a fair chunk of the river on the outside ... less so, my Planet X waterproof gloves, although I don't suppose they were ever designed for total submersion

BAM#1 - Scottish Highlands Edition.

Met up at Bothy Bar in Blair Atholl. Only ScotRoutes showed. We had our tea and a couple of beers then heaeded out into the dark (and light drizzle).

We were neither of us in best of healths but we struggled along for the approx 11.7km to the bivi spot, man, that was tough.

Pitched and set up for 11.30, woohoo.

We saw the stars (COlin saw the moon) and I managed my first of the years self harm (3 am pee call comedy falling over a tree in the dark and skinning the shin...).

Morning dawned (eventually, the back of 8am I guess) and after not inconsiderable pfaffing and breakfast we trudged the long haul 7odd km to the Atholl Arms for coffee.

Plan B, but the fire was calling when I realised there was a bed I could make up using the box and 2 benches
