Welsh Winter Bivvy 2016 UPDATES

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Details are fairly scant at present but so far it appears that this years venue will be Llyn Ceyln to the NW of Bala.

UPDATE
Okay, after much messing about on my behalf, this years WWB is (kinda) sorted.

Where: Ysbyty Ifan. NW of Bala. Carpark in the village SH842488. No facilities in the village except a post office which opens for two hours every Thursday morning ... so I'll say no more about that.

When: Dec 10th. Meet up around noon.

What: At present, there are three potential routes of varying length / character. It will be best to leave it until nearer the time before deciding exactly which we'll follow. I'll aim to get this sorted out in enough time, so anyone wishing to meet up en route will have time to devise a plan.

Expect the following: A mixture of terrain inc' some tarmac. Bad weather. Wet feet. Some pushing. Maybe a pub or cafe along the way but don't rely on it. A laugh.

Don't expect the following: To stay dry. Massive mileage. To get left behind. A roof.

I shall say this again - everyone is welcome. It's a social weekend, not a race and the riding will be conducted at a pace that suits the slowest, not the fastest rider.

Stick-on antlers, flashing lights and tinsel will gain adoring admiration and BRING LIGHTS

I'm not sure if that's the one. I'll try and find the grid ref for the one I was referring to - thought it was smaller than that.

Aren't you referring to the small fishing one that Stu and Mike couldn't undo a simple knot to open the door

This one then?

And it wasn't a simple knot, it looked liked it had been tied from the inside - very cunning these fishermen

The roof leaked and it was pretty grubby inside ... but it really was any port in a storm the night we were there. There's no path to it, plenty of yomping and very difficult to find in the dark, so yeah, it's brilliant :-bd

Me and my mate Bill are going up for the weekend 12-13 November. Going to do the outer loop first then see how we feel about the inner one. Bill is unsure of his capabilities (but he's very capable). Looks like you had a great time. Fancy another go?

Any more news on the route? Stu, can you pm a grid ref of the bivi spot so I can see how far away it is and how feasible it will be to join you after work (before I arrange a baby sitter)
