Everesting Bwlch y Groes

If there's anyone about in Mid Wales tomorrow, I can be found hauling myself to the top of the highest road pass in Wales: Bwlch y Groes, near Dinas Mawddwy.

A little bit of company during the day makes all the difference, even if for only one ascent :-bd

I'll be parked at the bottom of the climb below the hairpin; silver VW T5

You're getting the bug for this Everesting malarkey aren't you?

I take it that it's the one from the 100 climbs book - https://www.strava.com/segments/6670984 ?

Hope it went well! A friend has been scoping possibilities here but I'm not sure he'll actually commit to one.

All done. 24 reps, 9109m ascent. 142km. 17hrs 35min. 04:15am start, 09:50pm finish. Raining and low cloud/ poor visibility on the last couple of reps.

That was a bit hard! That top section... :o nowhere to rest at all. I am chuffed though. Tired, but chuffed :-bd

Very well done Ian, I can't help but think you picked one of the countries 'worst' hills for an Everesting.

Rather than start another thread, I'll post the link to my write up here, unless the mods want to move the whole thread to "Trips & Adventures"?

I'm not sure Everesting carries a great deal of "appeal" here, but perhaps for the sake of morbid curiosity, here's my write up: https://ianbarrington.com/2016/09/19/ev ... h-y-groes/

Serious question.
For us mere mortals who don't have the endurance or time, has anyone thought about Ben Nevis'ing or Mont Blanc'ing?
Or is this just silly?

Not silly. For me it's about pushing personal boundaries. If your boundaries lie closer to Mont Blanc than Everest, then go for it. If you read this article (http://cyclingtips.com/2012/05/mt-everest-in-a-day/) you'll see an Everesting was something that was worked up to over several attempts.

People mighty find it more motivating to do a scaled down version of a High Rouleur "Journey" ride: http://www.highrouleur.cc/the-rules/
e.g 200km, 5,000m of ascent, 18 hours. Not unlike the BB200
