What size is your tarp?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I'm just being nosey ... what size tarp do you use for ground based excursions, 1.5m x 2.5m, etc.

Tera Nova Comp 1, 1.5 x 2.5. My very first tarp.

Why are you being nosey?

Think my Golite Poncho tarp is 1.5 x 2.4

Another 1.5 x 2.5 here. Siltarp1

I think 2 x 2.5 would be a handy size though, giving slightly more pitch options.

I'm the same as Anthony, 2.5x1.5 sil tarp.

Spent yesterday night under it, and found it a bit snug. Not sure how it would work in heavy rain. 2.5x2m might be the best compromise over packsize/shelter space

Mine too. 2.4x2.8m, according to the specs. Maybe a bit big, but loads of room for one and just enough for two.

I always think a square tarp is more versatile than a rectangular one but it seems like most tarp manufactures don't agree ... so I just wondered what everyone was using.

I agree. When I was looking for a tarp the only square ones I could find were 3m x 3m, bit big for just one person. I also think that a 1.5 x 2.5 limits set ups, unless of course any one knows different.

On last years WRT I managed to stay dry over two wet nights with the golite poncho, but I didn't have any room to move about, but it's light and packs to nothing so I'm happy to live with it.
