The Postie brought me a beautiful 137cm x 14mm carbon pole for my Luxe Hexpeak V4a courtesy of Stuart. It's a thing of great beauty that I'm delighted with, thanks Stuart.It packs down into lengths just over 20cm and weighs next to nothing and will allow me to use the Hex without carrying my walking poles while canoing, packrafting and bikepacking (when I want a luxurious camping experience).

I've wanted one of those helmets for ages, just can't justify the expense.

A Revelate SaltyRoll double ended dry bag. 14L size but it's long rather than chubby (trying to avoid double entendres here!) so won't foul the front wheel.

At the start I found mine annoyingly narrow, but once I changed the way I pack it I now rather like it

The postie delivered a 13k mah cache battery and an Alpamayo top tube bag in my quest to not need a rucksack.

I got it slightly discounted at Forest of dean cycle center, the lid and jaw were bought seperately for less than a complete set AND he gave me 10% discount for buying together....win!

I couldve got even cheaper online but i like buying in person and trying on. Plus the shop was so nice and helpful i have no hesitation spending my money there in the future

Full face can seem overkill but i dont heal too good and im riding tougher trails lately. Detachable is a huge bonus for climbs (or just leave in the car for easier days)

New 29+ rims (WTB Scraper i45), spokes and Maxxis tyres. Oh and a full set of bearings for the original Sycros hubs on the Big Ed

I broke a rib on Easter Saturday, it's towards the back and it still hurts. That's 11 weeks and counting.

More interestingly, Gentle Art of Tramping book, which as Stu says is essential reading; and also The Travels of Tramp-Royal book - which has inscribed inside the cover: "From Mrs McHuish of McHuish, Moy Hall, 1932". Fantastic! Wonder if she was a bikepacker.....

Great book, I ought to get Mrs dummy to read it, she still can't understand why I tramp around the countryside on a bike. For best results read under a tree somewhere nice

A couple of Expedition Foods 800 kcal breakfasts. A bit of a change and it'll be interesting if I feel up to an 800 kcal breakfast of a morning....

I'm considering something home-brewed next, perhaps using Ready Brek as a base.

That's bad luck; I thought 29+ floated over all obstacles like a magic carpet? Certainly appeared that way when Phil went gliding past me (swearing as I was knee deep in a bog) through Fisherfield!

I had to go back the next day to recover my front light. Turned out that the rabbit hole was a 1' wide by 8" deep trench hidden in the meadow grass

The ground was as hard as concrete and the bars whipped around and I was on the ground before I knew what hit me. Luckily my Garmin HR strap took some of the impact and I got away with a nasty red mark on my chest and some discomfort that night. It was ok though for the Friday night "Sunshine" ride
