How to spot a Bikepacker if you met in the street?
Just having watched Stu's stove video, I'll start with inspect their right hand, if the hairs are missing or charred they've tried to light one too many meths stoves.

I find watching someone eat a full battenburg like it was a Mars bar is a give away.
May the bridges you burn light your way

Hands full of calluses from those long days riding? Eye circles and wobbly legs?
If it's been just recently. Hands full of shamy (you know - chamois) creme - don't shake 'em. Or full of sheep and/or dung, from HAB with a in filth covered bike. Don't shake those either.

So true. A couple of times on trips with my lad we've eschewed cake in a cafe, and bought and eaten a whole one each from a shop.I find watching someone eat a full battenburg like it was a Mars bar is a give away.

I find the thousand yard stare mixed with ordering two main courses and two or three Cokes each is a dead giveaway

Agreed, easy from watching someone eat!
Walk into cafe. Order food for 2. Waitress lays cutlery in 2 places as you faff with bike outside. Go in, demolish both portions in under 10 mins, pay the suprised looking staff and leave. If they look suprised when in the US where people seem to eat for a living you know you're doing well..
And the ability to eat a tub of ice cream and still ride up hills afterwards. Or, as 2 bstrds in the HLC did to me, watch me eat a large tub on top of a load of pasta + sauce then wind up the pace for the hour or so from the garage ... -must-not-lose-valuable-calories--gritted teeth---

A) Smells like a wet dog;
B) The long haul variety has suntanned fingertips;
C) Extreme helmet hair.
