The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
June 10th 8am.
I've seen plenty of pictures of snow on the passes. There'll be fire diversions aplenty too.
How many film crews will there be this year?

Doesn't Josh Ibbet like a film crew?
Best moment for me will be when Steve Large going south meets Geof Blance going north. Both strong riders and friends that I'll be watching closely.

Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
Looking forward to tracking Steve, all the best buddy!
Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
I flew in today - now in a crappy hotel in Calgary. Moving to Canmore to meet up with a few others tomorrow. UK riders are Phil Jones, Danny Green, josh Ibbett, Chris Ellison (Dale's Divide organiser), Anthony Ball, Chris Ross.
Should be fantastic although there's still snow on the passes, and significant reroutes (the Gila is closed so we go around through Mogollon.
Really looking forward to it now!!
Thanks for the support so far!!

Nice Steve but whatever you do, don't order grits for breakfast - it's truly vile.
May the bridges you burn light your way

Will be following your dot Steve, good luck.
Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
That may be the way we were sent in 2013, the Bursum Road. I remember it well, no spoilers though eh. I was using cues and odometer only so as soon as we went off-route after diversion news in Pie Town I had to follow signs and look for recent tyre tracks as a clue I was still on route. There was only 2 roads to follow but there were many miles w/o signs and not knowing if I had missed a turn. Still, a beautiful route. Added a fair few miles to the course. Best of luck!!we go around through Mogollon

I was going to say "this will be more compelling to watch, than BGT" but I think it deserves much more praise than that.
Have a blast, guys - jealous of the landscapes that you'll be experiencing.

At one point I asked a forest ranger if I was on the right road too.
Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
They've added some off road bits after Mogollon, but at least the route is published with that detour in.

I see Sofiane Sehili is having another shot. Not looked at the full list of starters but I probably wouldn't recognise some of the current fast crowd to judge if there's anyone who'll contest it with him. Or if Sofiane has fully recovered from his injury.

Drop bars to follow i assumeThis time, we’ve split them into two categories: drop-bar and flat-bar bikes. Find details on more than 50 flat-bar rigs here

Remember Steve, you don't have to ride faster than the bears, just faster than somebody else
Re: The 2022 Tour Divide watchers thread.
Phil, I'm looking for a fat friend at the moment...... actually, just looking for a friend......
Flat bars are the future - soon the world will go full circle and drop bars off road will be looked at like we look at elastomer forks.....
Josh Ibbett is racing also but has a chest infection so not sure what he's doing yet, but there's so much snow on the passes I suspect it won't be a record breaking year - but who knows?
It's going to be an odd race I suspect - some stretches that should be fast will be slow, and some reroutes will speed things up a bit. Also there is a staggered start this year - waves of 10-15 based on target finish time at 10 minute intervals. This is stipulated by the Alberta Parks authority I think to avoid clashes with walkers, other trail users..... could mean some start 1-2 hours after the faster riders
