OT: Murray Walker has left us

Growing up in Oz so far away from F1, he was a human link to something that was almost unworldly. Sometimes he just seemed to open his mouth to change feet, but my brothers and I loved him. We hung on his every word. I've googled some of his famous quotes. Makes me smile.

RIP Murray.

This would have been Senna's third win a row if he'd won the two before
Mansell is slowing it down, taking it easy. Oh, no he isn't! It's a lap record.

Top bloke indeed. His life before F1 was most interesting. RIP

One of his friends on the radio yesterday - “even in his quieter moments he sounded like his trousers were on fire”
I was never a big F1 fan but he made a dull sport interesting. RIP

Just read that he won a gold medal at the ISDT and got a premier award at the SSDT. I knew he had done a lot of trials riding but not realised it was to any great degree. He did a couple of TT's as well I recall (on a manx Norton) His dad raced rudges at the TT and when the factory couldn't afford to run the team he carried on as a privateer using the latest rudge bike with unofficial support. Minor trivia but quite a guy from quite a family, bike racing wise, and he made it to 98 :-bd

Similar to most, he was the voice of F1 in the 80's and 90's when I watched it on TV. In Canada, we were fortunate to get the BBC feed, so I had Murray and James Hunt doing the commentary. I read Murray's autobiography a few years ago and I was surprised at his "real job" prior to getting into F1. Made me smile today, when I saw a retrospective piece that had Murray and Nigel Mansel on a game show and Murray introduced himself as a "retired advertising executive." He led a great life.

I believe "A Mars a day, helps you work rest and play" was one of his creations...

Brilliant commentator. Always great fun to hear. His mistakes were always the best bit!

Several iconic moments of F1 are burned in my memory by his words and reaction...

Mansell mania, Senna crashing on 1st May 1994, Damon winning the championship in 96, to name a few...

Seemed like a genuinely nice chap.
