Our 13l Airlok dual front bags are worn and holed now and leak a fair bit. They have seen a lot of service so I am happy to replace them now. Looking on Alpkit they only seem to have 13l Tivaro's as an alternative, but none in stock till March - anybody got any experience with these? Are they any good? Anyone know of any other 13l front bags for me to consider as an alternative? It needs to be that size - the 9 or 10l ones just aren't big enough for our setup.

I've got an older Tivaro, the matt grey version. It's a lot heavier duty than the Airloks or Airlok Extras. Other than that, it's a drybag with built-in webbing etc.
I'd say good as a standalone bag, probably overkill if you're using some sort of harness.

Ok thanks. No we don't use harnesses at all (which is probably why ours have worn out - but this was a calculated decision - a new drybag is a lot cheaper than a harness).

The Wildcat double-ended drybags are very good. I have an unused Alpkit Airlok Dual 13L in kelp you can have, if you're interested.

Have you tried contacting AK? When I needed a new front bag I requested a 10L custom one made from LS07. Only weighs 60g, plus the S2S lightweight straps round the bars.

PS. March? Can't you just use some binliners and gaffertape until then? .

Yeah the Wildcat ones don't have strap mount points though so you have to use them with a harness, which is just a bit too pricey for me. Interested in your Airlok though - send me a pm with what you are wanting for it?

How much was the drybag Reg?

£40 incl P&P for 2 of them a year ago.... I was able to specify dimensions and position of strap patches and everything... very good service really....

Note that AK didn't supply the special strap slot widening tubes, I had to make those from a milk bottle (gonna stop having those plakky milkbottles soon so need to stash a few away). They add 0.5g to the weight but work superbly - much easier to feed the straps through in a hurry.

£20 each is really good. Impressed.

Lomo ones are only £8 each, although they are 12l?

Yes, but as Reg says, they are sadly lacking the strap bosses, which is a real shame, as I would much rather use a Scottish company.

Reckon that loop has a strap from there to the rolltop for shoulder-carrying.

I thought Hypalon was a type of starship drive. Powered by VX21 crystals probably.

Is the lack of strap bosses on a drybag really that much of an issue?
Do they slip out of the straps?

I don't know because I have never tried without them, but I imagine they would. Sometimes when we are travelling light the straps are right at the edge of the packed part so I'm sure they would slip off then.

Without strap bosses, couldn't you just put the straps closer to the stem?

Another approach would be to add your own bosses to a suitably sized rectangle of fabric, firming a kind of harness, that help to position the straps, and enclose the bag a bit more.
It would have to be fairly lightweight, though

It just feels like reinventing the wheel when the Alpkit ones do the job so simply and well. And cheaply. So I guess my question has been answered - its them or nothing.
