Bearbonesnorm wrote:Ritchey Commando fat bike frameset (frame / forks / headset) reduced from £900 to £180 ... I was almost tempted until I remembered I don't like fat bikes. Could make a decent 'Plus' bike though. Anyway, here you go.

https://www.merlincycles.com/ritchey-co ... 10841.html

I was really really tempted then (as a drop bar plus bike) but the rear brake routing down the seat stay means you can't use a cable disc so the whole build would have ended up costing too much :(

Ritchey RRP for that frame was/is $500/€540, so not much where £899 comes from?

Don't know, you'd have to ask Merlin. Regardless, still seems like a lot of frame for £180?

I was really tempted by this, any idea if it would take 27.5+ wheels and if that would be a bright idea or am I missing something. Never ridden a fat bike or anything bigger than 26" other than a cross bike.

Should cope fine. Just remember that the hub spacing is 135mm front and 170mm rear.

Oh it will be a 100mm bottom bracket to won't it?
Does that mean some funky front mech would be needed to reach it?

- Yup, brake routing is along chainstay.
- Spacing 135mm QR and 170mm QR rear as stated.
- Will be fine with 27.5+ as this was what I was planning for it, although internet research has people setting them up as 29+ too, which is where I'm erring towards at the moment. Probably 2.6" tyres though.
- 100mm bottom bracket, hadn't thought too hard about front mechs though..oops.
- Frame weighs 2.55kg (19") and forks are 1.1kg.
- Paint quality is lovely!

Think I misread the t&c it is a one time use per person (novacane and the newly missing tooth has me a bit confuddled)

Nope you need an adapter - https://problemsolversbike.com/products ... nt_-_25344 - 100mm version
I think Planet X were doing something similar as well. Or go 1x with a 26 or 28 T ring - works well on a fat bike as front mechs tend to get bunged up with mud or snow.

Chainstay brake cable guides don't preclude use of a cable caliper - my Mk1 Mukluk had such a set up.

I might be the last to the party here, but I've just been on the Maplin website and they are closing down (I did know that bit as it was on the radio) and have all the stock discounted. So now is the time to stock up on lithium and/or rechargeable batteries.
