Front Roll Bag Holder Thing.

I made this about 18 months ago as my roll bag was squashing my hoses a bit too much for my liking.
My friend makes water tanks out of this stuff and gave me a few off cuts, I just cut it on the bandsaw then drilled the necessary holes, to bend it you use a heat gun from both sides until it becomes pliable and with gloves on bend it then put it under the cold tap to set it.
I used an old alpkit strap I had knocking around for the middle strap which you put on first to hold the bag secure thus giving you both hands free to faff with the end buckles and you don't need to use your knees at all :-bd
I did a Welsh coast to coast South to North to test it and it worked fine, I have since made quite a few for friends with no failures.
I have done thousands of miles on it now and really battered it and it seems indestructible or perhaps I shouldn't say that
The plastic is polypropylene and it weighs 176 grammes with the strap.

I have problem with my Wildcat Lion, on one of my bikes.
It catches the front mudguard... a lot !

The problem is because my front suspension (100mm/4inches) has lost about 6mm, not a lot but contributes to the catching.

Apparently the suspension can drop a bit from its original 100mm, to do with negative air pressure going on in there.... ???

Whatever the reason, it’s a problem, a big problem.

There is Velcro on the Wildcat Lion which I reckon could be 2 inches higher (as well as keeping the original Velcro where it is.)

Therefore the tongue which attaches could be 2 inches higher, giving that much more clearance.

Would your gadget help to keep the dry bag higher ?

If so I’m definitely interested .

What do you think ?

(That’s why I’ve expressed an interest in Sandro’s bag which does not fit on the handlebars...)

And interested in the lightest bar harness in the world, invented by Reg
Are you reading this Reg ?

I think it would , as you could tune it with the right bend by letting all the air out the forks so you can compress them to full travel to see if it touches the tyre.
You can take the forks apart to do a lower leg service and take out the plunger thing in the air side as air get past it sometimes thus using up a little of your travel, you tube will help.

Thanks

I guess I could, I didn't put them on to sell just to show my solution.
I would need to know how far from the centre of your steerer tube to the first bend, this depends on your stem length, also I would have to wait until I see my mate next to get the plastic so as long as your not in to much of a rush.

Re the negative pressure in my fork, I got my lbs to try it, and they did, resulting in me now having 104mm of travel...

A bit of grease blocking the transport hole in the chamber, stops the equalisation of air between the stanchion and the lower leg.

Interesting idea. Looks like polypropylene sheet can be bought easily and cheaply From here:
https://www.directplastics.co.uk/polypropylene-sheet

Don’t know if it’s exactly the same stuff, obviously.

How thick is the material you are using?

Have you used it out in the field?

Thanks

Ian

Hello Ian
Its about 5mm thick and yes I have done at least 4000 miles with it in some very challenging conditions. I think it is safe to say its strong.

Did you get 4.5mm or 6mm?

Which size did you buy?

I used 6mm on mine, I think the 4.5mm will be too floppy.
