For our family summer hols, we’re treating our girls to two weeks adventuring through the Dolomites ( they don’t know what’s ahead of them plenty of chocolate will be packed).. To make our small tent more liveable (I’m sleeping in the porch) we’ll be rigging up a tarp to the tent, supported by two trekking poles strapped together.
So, any observations on the best straps to use? -webbing/ velco/rubberised plastic/ bike inner tube?

Re: Connecting trekking poles for a tarp shelter
I made a connector out of paracord. Essentially a loop at one end and a loop at the other, then velcro wraps to keep them together. I've used that for my MLD Supermid lots, in fact I don't have a single pole long enough for it
Re: Connecting trekking poles for a tarp shelter
Is it to join them to make a single longer pole? If so then joiners are available, for example

Some of the trekking pole manufactures also make joiners for their specific poles.

Re: Connecting trekking poles for a tarp shelter
I have one of the pole joiner things that Sean linked above, it's quite light and reasonably small and works great. The only downside is that to connect the two poles you have to take one section off each one so the joined poles aren't as long as two complete poles would be. This may or may not be an issue depending on how you intended to use the poles.

Thanks all
As it’s a one off, I’ll try the paracord approach.

Re: Connecting trekking poles for a tarp shelter
Do your poles have a screw the top of the handle? Maybe a double sided screw or threaded bar to connect them.
