Just been lucky enough to nab a spot on the inaugural gbduro event. Anyone else on here partaking? Will be using my ti fatbike likely with drop bars as my weapon of choice!

I admit to not really 'doing' fat bikes but that aside, I am struggling to comprehend wanting to ride a fat bike on something that length which is half on tarmac ... but good on you for considering it. :-bd

I'm considering WalesDURO... but I'm wondering if it might be a bit "serious business" for me.

With the right setup a fatty rolls just as well as a normal mountain bike.

It’s a pretty trick setup I use for racing, unladen it’s sub 10kg, I do have 29er rims I could use in it if I wanted but the fat wheels on jumbo Jim’s and super light wheels roll just as well on tarmac

We will see how I get on, money is where by mouth is though.... committed!

Very true Andy. I'm sure you'll do it justice and you'll certainly stand out from all the gravel bikes

I've ridden next to fat bikes and they've rolled far better than my 2.1 Ikons on tarmac.

Yes, massive inertia which aids in rolling ... but how did they climb?

Never had one stay close to me for that bit.

I’ve raced amongst other things national xc on my fatty and did not struggle up the climbs.

In fact the best result I managed was on 4” tyres, tried 2.8” and 2.1” as wel!

To bring some closure to this post

The fatty was a brilliant iron horse for everything gbduro threw at it, finished 4th even with carbon crank failure and a savage mot garage bodge!

Route was amazing,

Highlights for me were most of the second city divide section, pretty much everything in wales including a smash down a red trail in Dyfi, some twisty fun trails in llandegla, the sandy Scottish gravel in the last 100km, dunkery descent was mega with big tyres. Some of the HT550 section in heavy thunder storms made me feel very small, especially the corieyairack pass.

1240miles 1110,000ft mega!!!

Had to swap tyres midway as I left half a jumbo Jim tread up great dun fell!

Well done, saw the fatty, so you too I assume, on a Francis Cade video of the event. He only made it into the second day.

Got to say I did think 'On a fatty?', but you showed, yes, on a fatty :-bd
