More Fargo tyre questions

So I still can't decide which way to go with my Fargo build.
What is the maximum rear tyre size people are running in a pre-boost Fargo with Alternators. I think I have a 2015 steel frame with grey gloss paint.
Salsa say 2.3, is that the real world limit?
Thanks

Size isn't everything I go by functionality and conditions.
I use G-One AR 2.25 for winter use.
Big Apple II for dry/summer use
MK II 2.2 available if required.

G-Ones and BAs are same size front and rear. With the MK II I use the same but 2.4 front.
Riding round here it is very hard to find conditions where I would need a knobbly tyre
and I keep them because I have got them.
If I was trying to pick a tyre from scratch, rather than what I have got already, I would probably go by tyre choice/function rather than size.

Fair point.
Just a little concerned about sizing down too much. I've only MTB'd on 3" 29+ tyres for the last 4 years and had a 140mm travel full sus 26er before that.
Will probably settle on 2.25ish rear and 2.25/2.4 front for most use. Just don't want to be uncomfortable as I intend to use it for ITT's where I'll be riding 24hours at a time.
I just wanted to know what max size 29er one can practically use in case I want to go that way.
