Managed to snaffle up a 2015 steel Fargo frameset on that there eBay yesterday which I'm pretty pleased about.
If all is good when it arrives then I think I've paid a reasonable price.
Now all I need is to set it up.
On the whole I'm going to port over the running gear from my current commuter/gravel/CX/adventure bike.
It will be driven by Rohloff-Rohbox gearing system.
I have some super wide Ritchey flared Drops.
My plan for wheels is to build my present SON and Rohloff hubs into 29er rims. The Fargo initially will be a foil to my Krampus which is set up as a bikepacking juggernaut.
I want the Fargo to be a bit more nimble but also versatile.
I was thinking Vapour 35 rims. They are 30mm internal. Would there be a problem running a 2.1 tyre say a Nano on these?
Generally I think I'll use a 2.25 tyre like a Nobby Nic.
Any other thoughts on tyre/rim?
Should I plump for a narrower rim for better results with narrower tyres. After all I still have 50mm rims with 3" tyres on The Krampus.

Hiya. I’ve got a krampus and a Fargo! Running a rohloff on the Fargo ( it was on the krampus before).
Went for hope xc rims in the end. I’ve run them with quite a few tyres, 2.1 nanos at the minute down to skinny commuting tyres.
Having a narrow rim on the Fargo alongside the krampus is a great combination.

Any other thoughts on tyre/rim?

If you're planning to run 2" - 2.25" why go for such wide rims?

I'm a bit confused tbh. If its fairly standard to run an internal 20mm rim with a 25-30mm tyre on road bike these days it doesn't make an internal 30mm rim seem wide for an MTB anymore

Have a search for ETRTO, there are charts for rim/tyre width combinations. Here's one https://www.schwalbetires.com/tech_info/tyre_dimensions note that these are the recommendations to cover manufacturers' backsides, you may be able to go slightly beyond these.

19mm to something like 23mm internal should be fine for those sizes. If you start to go too wide on the rim width you run the risk of squaring the tyre profile off which will likely lessen that nimble feeling your after.

With narrow tyres on wide rims you sacrifice the shoulder knobs, leaving you with weak performance when cornering or when riding off camber stuff.
Even on tarmac you'll loose a noticeable amount of grip.

For a mate and self it once ended with three decent crashes during the same trip. The transition from grip to loosing it comes extremely abrupt and is hard to catch.

I'd go for 25 mm rims max with 2.1" tyres.

DT XR361, WTB KOM or Frequency 23 or 25, NoTubes Crest, Pacenti TL28 (only if you're not hard on your wheels) etc. or one of LightBicycle's suitable options for carbon is the way I'd go with 2.1 - 2.25" tyres.

It isn't if the tyre has some width around 60 mm - 2.4". I ride various tyres from 2.35 - 2.6" in 30 mm rims and find they're a perfect match.

DT Swiss XM481 29er rims on my Fargo. Tyres are 2.4 front 2.2 rear both with 240s hubs.
Had my SON built with the same rim but in the end the faff factor of a dynamo meant I didn't use it enough.
