What daily distance would she have to ride to break M and W record?

Her route goes Moskau-Krasnoyarsk in quite a straight line, seemingly following an orthodromic distance as good as possible. This and obviously less border crossings for possible reasons?

So how do such rides work? Are there exit and entry points to cross, say from Asia to Australia? Is there a certain amount of longitude plus distance one has to ride? Would a ride like Markus Stitz's qualify?

Really hope she smashes it whilst having a great time :-bd such a positive person

I think she's riding to these rules https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_th ... ing_record.

I would imagine that riding across Russia you might be subject to certain restrictions, political, military and geography - not all roads in Siberia will be paved for example plus there's some big rivers.

Uh oh........

If you were ever in doubt as to the size of Russia, track along her planned route and then zoom out - she only covers about half of the country!

When it says 'straight tracking distance' I presume that's straight lines between tracked points?

Go Jenny.

I've not looked in detail at the Russian section but it looks like it's the road equivalent of the Trans-Siberian railway, seems to roughly follow that sort of route. I recall watching a programme about someone motorbiking elsewhere in Siberia and I think it's safe to say that the bridges needed a bit of work

I'm not sure from the Wikipedia article if transfer times are now included in the overall time.

During the Marc Beaumont talks last year he touched upon the fact that he reckons times for round the world attempts will get quicker due to new roads being built. Think he indicated southern Russia as being one area..

Good luck Jenny!

There's no distinction between supported and unsupported rides for the record, so the men's record is Marc Beaumont's 78 days (230 miles per day) and the Women's record is Paola Gianotti's 144 days (125 miles per day).

There must be a minimum of 18,000miles cycled in a continuous direction (East or West)
The total distance travelled including planes/ferries/etc must be larger than the circumference of the equator.
The clock doesn't stop for transfers.

I see the transit time rule has changed, can see the pros and cons to this rule change

Don't forget
As a Geography teacher, how could I. Only the width of 7/8 large African nations then?

EDIT: Never noticed that little outlier they have north of Poland - Kaliningrad. Some sort of air bag kicking contest going open there just now.

The route logistics must be a nightmare, and eating on the way, and bivvying somewhere along the way...(safely)...

But what does she do about money ? Just take $ or what ? Then the hassle of not being fleeced whenever you buy something...

(I travelled years ago and took $ but bought local currency when I entered eg India, Burma etc)

But she’ll not be staying too long in a lot of these countries...?

She's not actually going through that many countries: Russia, Mongolia, China, US, Canada, Australia, NZ, then back in the Eurozone. You could probably carry a small amount of each and a pre-charged debit card.

Has she got an extended visa for Russia? Seems a long way looking on the map for a 30 day visa?

The route across Russia looks to be slightly over 4000 miles. She said she's planning on averaging 180 miles a day, so that works out at 22 days to cross Russia. Should give enough contingency time but I dont know if she's made any plans for extending visas if she runs into problems.

Well she's now in Russia, country number five. From the tracker it looks like it took about an hour to clear customs.
