Wheel building woes

Post by BigdummySteve »

Well I thought I’d laced everything ok but I’ve obviously cocked up, I’ve a pattern of two ok two loose.
Can someone point out the obvious :-bd

Ive been building following Rodger Musson’s book, I thought word for word.
Could you use your ninja wheel building skills to give me clue of just where I cocked it up?

I could just de-lace it but I want to understand the nature of my FU, it’s mainly a learning exercise.

Could be when you have put in the first spoke on the 2nd side you lace up that you have chosen the wrong hole in the rim - 1 too far round or not far enough if that makes sense. Think I've managed to do that and get problem you describe. Effectively the 2 patterns are laced at different angles on the rim and the hub.

Steve, I am in Reading if you want to pop over, I will walk you through the Musson wheel build process. Been using his method for years, I guess have built 30 - 40 pairs of wheels

I wasn't paying attention when building my Road+ wheels and ended up in a similar position. I just dismantled them and put them aside overnight. Next day they went up fine.

Thanks for the offer, I’m going to start again. If I run into problems I may take you up.
