Honey Pots

So after a great weekend riding around the Surrey hills it got me thinking that there must be loads of honey pots scattered around the country that go unnoticed to the majority of mountain bikers or just get written off for the known delights of other well established destinations.

So where do you consider to have great riding that’s kind of unknown to the masses?

This!

Couple of years back, August Bank holiday Monday, saw a two Green laners out and a couple of walkers! Sun was out too!

Amazed me how quiet that area is :-bd

Oooh, have you got a gpx?

(Sorry. I don't really want a gpx, just my sick sense of humour/irony)

The Western bits of the Pentlands. Loads of wee trails that nobody except me seems to ride (as the Strava heatmap attests). There's a lot of pushing though, but the reward is the little ribbons of trails that only sheep have trod.

I should let you guys know that the often missed outskirts of the peak district is really good, namely the riding around Marple, New Mills, Mellor...pretty much where I do all my mid week night rides :-bd

Warwickshire would be a mecca for mountainbiking if it had some hills and decent trails. Sadly lacking in both....

Northumberland on the other hand is a fantastic place for riding - especially around Wooler /Cheviots

Great riding round here...

Some hard stone tracks good in winter and through the year, some good moorland boggy bits (for a fat bike), loads of single track (secret ones.. ), plenty of climbing too (on the bike).

And if you want a monster ride, from where I live, it’s 13 miles to get onto the MT Loop (2500 feet ascent), and from there you can go nearly anyway (and by that I mean in good country avoiding roads)...

Yorkshire Dales a bit north and east, Peak District south and east.
