Diy cashe battery

I decided to make my own battery, the plan was to use waterproof connectors and a barrel connector charging input to avoid the easily broken micro usb.

The plan worked well, soldered the charging cct and output ready to insert into the housing. But I won’t change an iPhone, any thing else is ok. Is there anything I’ve missed? Do I need to short out any pins or something else? Good job I checked before I filled it with resin......this time :???:

Depends how new the iphone and other stuff is

Newer kit has a testing circuit built in, I think, that tests how good the power source is, and then determines how much current it'll accept from it

Some internet digging has revealed that iPhones require a control voltage of 2v across the data pins (2&3) for the iPhone to recognise it as a charger, obviously my output cct only provides 5v to pins 1&4.. fine fir most usb stuff but not apple.

Can I be bothered to drop in a couple of resistors, on my last bam I killed a new battery first time out due to water ingress so I do need a solution

I do need a solution
Cheap, fast and very, very effective.

That would indeed lower my power requirements but my phone is usually on airplane mode and only used as a navigation tool, a bit like a garmin but it doesn’t crash and you can actually read the screen!

Steve, you do realise that Reg is sat at home thinking to himself how his paper map doesn't crash, has a massive 'screen' and requires no electrical input?

Only problem is I've just spilled my tea on it and made a nasty mark. Which one? Kiddie and Wyre Forest as it happens. More about that later.

Still, I suppose at least it's only a nasty mark and not a nasty <POP, FIZZZZZZZ> sound

iPhones are waterproof now, talking of all stuff retro I saw a lovely Gary fisher MTB outside Tesco, sadly being used as a beater. Anyhow i digress, yes paper maps are great but like many I prefer a gps when out and about, I’ve invested in OS maps for the whole country and have a choice of several different mapping/ gps apps.
While you can’t beat a nice big map for route planning I’d always have a gps of some sort with me.
