There is no direct comparison. I have put some pictures on my instagram feed of the bothy and some mud and a crank falling off. They're currently writing a blog post about their weekend I think... There may or may not be a video... Who knows? I don't care... I'll probably enjoy reading it/watching the video and I'll probably buy a pair of the shoes they were product testing... meh, whatever... they look good and will go with my tan sidewalls*, Japha musette** and my (currently struggling) hipster beard***

I don't mind a bit of marketing, you just gotta keep things in perspective.

"These holidays are called microadventures" ... when did this happen? When did taking a holiday closer to home become a 'small - adventure' . Going to Benidorm must be a full blown expedition, with sherpa an' everything. Another thing ... why is the pic on the link of a campfire? What is the obsession ... if people had to rely on lighting a fire daily for actual heat and hot water, novelty would soon wear off

This is the world we now live in, where vast portions of the population (in the developed world anyway) are obsessed with filming everything they do and immediately pushing it in your face. Was recently on holiday with an old mate, a fifty-something who I always regarded as 'old school' and uninterested in modern trivia, however he was now posting selfies online every few minutes, of the most inane sub standard. apparently it's the only way he can get a response from his kids. bizarre.

Of course we also have the choice to ignore all this crap by not subscribing to social media, and terminating that Strava bollocks, but ego and vanity are powerful things...

I'm with you. This cult of self flagellation - what's it all about? I understand for most people living in the UK who want to ride year-round, that going out in sub-optimal conditions is fairly normal, but what is so noble or uplifting about riding in awful conditions? "properly poor show riding" - I've been there and it is not any fun. Perhaps better than cabin fever, but there are days I'd rather do something else than suffer for the sake of it. It may give me an appreciation for that warm cafe with the hot chocolate, but it doesn't cleanse my soul and make me a better person...and there is little to enjoy from bivying out when piss wet through. Give me blue skies and dry trails any time!

Of course Dave's home movies are always entertaining because we can empathise as much as laugh, but for all it's honesty, this video would not encourage me to take up this ridiculous leisure activity if I was a newcomer to the whole thing.
