Chiltern Spring Thing 2018

Well, it would be hard to top Sam's fantastic round house party at the recent winter bivi, but it would be great to look forward to (hopefully) to a bike & bivi with some warmer weather, longer days, early bluebells and less glue like mud ( :YMPRAY: :YMPRAY: :YMPRAY: ), i.e. A Chiltern Spring Thing. Momentum is gathering up north, so not wanting to miss out on the fun, we'll ride around a bit, find cafe, ride a bit more, pub (with food), then retire to suitable woodland lodgings. Rural Chilterns isn't actually very rural, so if its a big turnout we might need to split up a bit at our evening retreat, we'll sort that nearer the time.

Lets see a show of hands for April 14th, leaving from Berkhamsted?

I’m probably up for it as long as you can promise no ice

I’m still thinking of organising a ‘Southern Summer Slummer’ towards the solstice, down the ridgeway to join the other hippies at Avebury

Would it be OK if I try and get my buddy to come along to that? He's not really done any bikepacking and it might be a fairly gentle introduction.

Don't be surprised if he's not particularly quick though. His wife has been ill and he's not had a lot of time for riding.

You don't need to put the man down before he's even started!!! I wasn't planning anything too tough with the route, I was thinking of about 60-70k all in and there are plenty of options out there for bonus liquid refreshment stops

Yeah, I just want to get his confidence up a bit. He pulled out of the last ride we did because he was wrecked, so I'm very nervous of pushing him too hard for fear he never goes out again. :(

He's not replied to my message, so probably not off to a good start...

Looks like I may be a non-starter for this one after all. It's the end of the school hols and I'm away at the FoD the previous weekend and the kids have refused to come along. So my ex may very reasonably decline to take them for two weekends in a row ..... I'll try to come for the ride and the dinner.

OK peeps, just a month away so looking to firm up numbers (best making pub reservations in advance around these parts). I did a rekon ride last week, might need bog snorkelling kit, but I'll let you know trail conditions nearer the time. So, show of hands for those sucking a thoughtful tooth.....????

TBD, one of my route options takes us up the Chalfonts, so could meet you there if you can't make it over to Berko?

Almost certain I won't be able to make this Rich, but thanks for the invitation and I hope it all goes well (which it will, 'cos you're in the Chilterns and never far from a pub  ).

Just seen this, not looked at diary but put me in for a firm possible...I generally tell the missus a week before and then just disappear. Will obviously confirm nearer the time. Will need a bit more practice prior to WRT anyhoo.

Hi Rich,

I'm interested and so is my mate Dave, we need to stretch a bit before the WRT whatever happens.
