Could it be due to the size of the original image?
Max pixels is 1000x800 or something similar.

I'm quite enjoying the mental picture.
Hope the real thing isn't disappointing.

Still intrigued by this tease ;). It's New Year's Eve now and I'm viewing it as a BP equivalent of getting over-refreshed during the festivities and sticking a traffic cone on top of a car roof as a 'joke' during the stagger home. Another possibility could be towing a wheelybin, which would double as both luggage and shelter (the lid would make a handy rain 'beak').

Just need to swap out those 4" wheels for something bigger and nobbly.

Right then. It's the sort of inspiration and ingenuity illustrated by this thread that Made Britain, er, Great. So while we're awaiting the original invention I thought I'd give it a go myself. As luck would have it I'm already starting to pack for WE, so I thought I may well go the whole hog and replace ALL my luggage for something a bit more, um, homespun. I was seriously impressed with the results. During a spin round the park and the local lake, the traffic cone seatpack stayed rock-solid with no waggle or bob at all, despite being packed with tarp, groundsheet, poles, pegs, plus toolkit, spare clothes and all the usual paraphernalia. The fuel-tank and feedbag did a fine job, and my precious sleeping bag stayed nice and dry in the bar bag. Because of the cone shape one has to be quite creative and judicious with packing, but putting pointy things down the bottom obviously helps. Anyway, I reckon it's a flyer. Here's the overview:

Almost unlimited space for everything including the kitchen sink:

I think the fueltank is particularly effective, contains all cooking gear, and of course milk if desired  Note the gravy-box feedbag on the left there, completely waterproof what with having a secure lid so handy for all sorts of things, maybe even storing water in fact. Goes very well next to my existing gaffer-tape bottle-harness.

Finally the bar [bin] bag; no need to muck about with harnesses and the like, garden string is cheap, quick-release, and re-useable:

Loving the work there Reg. I think we may have somehow offended the man behind the original idea as he asked to have his account here removed :???: So, looks like the mantle has now passed to you. :-bd

"account removed" :???: What a strange fellow, just when he was on to something as well, what a shame. Mantle to me.... if I'm going to go into mass-production then I'll have to nip out later in the dead of night and start rounding up a load more traffic cones. There's some roadworks round the corner and they probably won't miss a few. It's all rather gone to my head a bit now, and I'm starting to look into alternatives for clothing (*).............

(*) do you remember that edible clothing from a while ago? http://www.ediblegear.com it was, although sadly it seems to have "gone out of business". I thought that was great, because of course your load got lighter and lighter as you got nearer home..... last morning: eat your sleeping bag, almost there: eat your coat and boots, etc. Marvellous way of TLS... or rather BLSB. I suppose the business model wasn't really all that sustainable, what with having to buy complete new sets of gear for every outing.

Reg, if you leave the top of the cone open and then connect a pipe from the bottom to a waterbottle on the seat tube it would top up your bottle when it rained

The original idea is quite good, a cone shaped plastic harness for a dry bag would protect the bag from muck thrown off the wheel and be easy to clean off post ride.

Thanks guys. You'll be pleased to know the tablets have started working again now (*).

"I didn't want to be sick on the road"

(*) Edit: Eh? I'm speaking with other lovely people who CHOOSE to doss out in smelly ditches in subzero temperatures, and I worry about MY tablets!? I guess it's all relative .

I can see a new form of extreme ITT evolving here. We must let the semi-pros know that Reg is ahead of them.

The rules are simple, a bike is allowed but all bivy gear must have been sourced from your bin or a skip. Food can only be scavenged on the route and navigation done by a sextant...

"Purple Helmets' antics" - cracking! (or possibly "arse-cracking"). Not seen that before, yes the bean-powered jet-propelled idea really fits in with this new ethos I reckon. That certainly IS an arse trumpet!

Bin, skip - fair cop Dave  I must admit I make no secret of my positioning at the "two-wheeled tramp" end of the Bearbones spectrum. Although, my possession of cuben tarp, PHD gubbins, etc etc, whilst being an apparent indication of rank hypocrisy, is simply a result of my living just round the corner from the bins and skips of Waitrose, Fortnums, The Ritz, et al.... a stroke of luck on my part when it comes to skip diving :-bd.

Needs to stop being soft.
I was a bit surprised too. It's only ever happened once before and that was on grounds that seemed far more stable.

Anyway, as Dee said in her summing up after I mentioned it to her ..... "f*ck 'em, ya don't need soppy tw@ts like that"

You're not fooling anybody Stu, we all know that beneath that cold, gruff, stony exterior beats a heart of pure... erm... err. Hmm, ah, yes OK then, as you were  .

I know I can't be soft because I'll be leaving the window of the Star Executive Suite slightly ajar overnight next Friday.
