Northern winter bivi

I have heard mutterings through the grape vine of a northern winter bivi - but I've yet to see it detailed anywhere (or maybe I'm being blind  )

How far North? There's certainly talk of a Scottish winter bivvy somewhere around Perthshire.

I know There usually is one but I’ve not seen it confirmed for this year.

We had a small peak one last year. Which may do again if there’s interest...

My enthusiasm for arranging something is low and people moaning about what is "Northern" makes me care less. Perhaps Iceland this year?

If anyone wants to step in feel free :-bd

I'm interested in the idea of a northern winter bivvy, but I'm not northern enough for the actual northern event which appears to have shifted due to climate change. If there's enough interest, we could form a People's Front of the North (or if not, a Popular Northern Front).

I'm willing to organise if it looks like Northumberland suits the majority. It just needs someone to pick a bothy (presumably), a date and a route right?

I am childless on the 16/17th so this would suit me :)

I'm not going to offer myself for organising anything though - that sounds a bit rubbish but I have my reasons

How about we just have a Yorkshire bivi? Stop all the usual nonsense.

By which I mean, how about we go to the pub after a bike ride?

If it's a Yorkshire thing I'd favour between Christmas and New Year as I'll be in Halifax at some point anyway.

That’s pretty much what the peak based bivy has been.

;-)

I showed my face in the pub last year - that was warm dry and not too expensive ;)

My face is normally moist an inexpensive, so it's all good.

It was expensive for Steve as his drivechain and rear wheel were destroyed in a freak accident.

We could go a similar outing if people are keen.

Maybe visit the Anglers at Bamford which is a good community run pub.

I absolutely love a post-ride pint or two, and I've never been in the Anglers Rest.

Consider this a register of my interest.

OK then,

Which weekend is good for people?

we could meet up at one of the hope valley train stations which have parking (and trains!) mid afternoon, go for a ride, visit the Anglers for a restorative Ale or three and food then bivy reasonably close by c. 30 minute ride away.

What do you mean - which weekend? There can only be one weekend

In which case there are two! :-bd

Anyone free on the 'only one' date is welcome down to the warmer, drier and softer south east bivi

Nah, I'm with Highlander (or he'll chop me leg off), there's only one "Winter Bivi" all the rest are pale imitations . Surely the whole point is we're all out baffling the normals at the same time.

"warmer, drier and softer south east bivi" - that must have been a different SE Winter Bivi than the one I was on then Ben  Had to throw all me clothes away afterwards. And the bike.

If they're on two different weekends, you can go to two! Win!
