I have a lux mini peak that I'm certain, well sort off lol will fit in an alpkit koala I'm thinking of buying

So that leaves me to sort my cooking stuff out, I currently have a trangia 25 and I like meths cooking (well boiling water if I'm honest)
I'm thinking an alpkit 650 myti a spork and then I get stuck

I have a stem cell, cheers again nick so I can carry things in that. But I'm thinking

Either a pocket stove with my current trangia but I read on here it takes quite a long time, or perhaps a bbul22g stove and some kind of shield
But is the 22g a better option, and is it stable enough, hope that makes sense

Any other advice ideas more than welcome :)

All I'm going to say is, any meths stove that isn't a Trangia ('cos they already have one) needs a windshield if you want to get the best from it. To a degree, it's almost more important than the stove

That reminds me - do you have a downloadable template for a 8g stove windshield Stu? I know you sent me one but I've lost it.....

Haven't used a trangia, but I have one of Stu's afterburner stoves and it is really good - and others who have seen it going have then gone out and bought one.

But made with a small energy drinks can so even smaller than a coke can. I made a windshield from heavy duty foil and it all fits inside a 650ml Ti mug with matches/firesteel and bit of cloth for wiping and holding the handle and a small insulation pad to sit the stove on. Also fits in an xl stem cell with space for plenty of 3:1 coffees and hotchocs on top.

I've used my my BB meths stove alot this year and I really like it. They take a bit of getting used to but they are surprisingly effective. I siliconed mine onto a baked beans tin base for extra stability and did a fair bit of experimenting with wind shields before settling on a home spun one. Meths doesn't like the cold so bung the bottle in your sleeping bag for a bit before use if its single figure temps. a 200ml bottle of meths does about 6 boils in a Ti cup.

Yes, no and it depends ... 8g and 22g stoves work by pressurising the stove, so the pot / mug needs to sit directly on the stove. You'd need a very small mug to achieve that with the meths stove inside a pocket stove. If you could find something to fit, you may also find that the internal air volume of the 'windshield' is too small and will starve the stove of air. Lastly, there's the issue that the holes in a pocket stove are really in the wrong place and would reduce any chimney effect and not actually provide much of a shield.

Homemade Vaseline meths burner in my pocket stove still requires a windshield. Red bull one is too wide to fit

22g really but people have used a 650 with the 8g. Although, there's no way it'll boil 600ml of water without refueling and I've always made special oversize tapered windshields which provides the stability ... it'd be a bit of a juggling act otherwise.

It does but I can tailor it to suit a little if you like ... it'll make it less universal but more efficient and it'll also fit inside the mug.

Big fan of the BB stoves but Ive been using storminstoves cone for a few months and it's the best combination of speed to boil, weight, stability and packability that Ive come across.
