Bivi Bag deJour is?
Running an Alkpit Hunka XL, here, but just wanting something a little more refined?
Needs to be able to fit a Thermorest Neolithic, and a Cumulus 250 quilt inside.
Don't always use a tarp, so waterproof(ish) is required..
So, what's good out there...

There's not many that will fit all that and yourself inside, you'll need something around the same size as the Hunka XL. I bought a Borah bivy from Ian Fitz which is slightly bigger. It's more for use with a tarp as it's very lightweight.
Interested to see what others suggest.

FWIW Nick, I used your old Kestrel the other night - with mat outside it. Is there a specific reason for wanting the mat inside the bag (I suspect that quilts might work better that way?)

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
I had a Rab Alpine Bivi, eVent top, zip over the head, waterproof bottom. Massive size and would definitely fit mat and winter bag in it with room for kit at top or bottom!
Very nice bit of kit.
Weighs the same as a Hunka XL, with the ability to "batten the hatches down " when need be. Could be used without a Tarp, although we all know the merits of getting in and out of it in the pissing rain!
Only sold it as it wasn't being used enough.
Nice!!!

Pretty much exactly that Colin, I like to atttach the quilt to the mat..ScotRoutes wrote:FWIW Nick, I used your old Kestrel the other night - with mat outside it. Is there a specific reason for wanting the mat inside the bag (I suspect that quilts might work better that way?)
I know some don't bother, but also as I move a lot while sleeping I needed the extra room..
Also I think old habits die hard, and I'm used to having everything in one place in case we had to bug out..

Which reminds me, I do have my snugpack one..
Not that it packs down that small..
Guess I'll stick with taking the Hunka and a hat!

My Outdoor Research Helium hooped bivi has worked well for me.

After starting off with an Alpkit, moved this year to the MSR E bivy which have grown to really rate.
+Super roomy/long, can fit all manner of sleep paraphernalia and snacks inside (im 6ft4 and sleep on side)
+the hood is an overlapping flap type design which makes its feel less coffin like.
+235g, tin of soup size
+thin upper material helps make it nicely breathable
-technically it's weather resistant, plays well with dew/light rain. Proper rain would pair with a tarp, which is how l often gear up anyways

My Rab event bag is massive, can fit my foam mat in, me (obviously) and my winter bag in it. To be fair, I'm 10 stone

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
Interesting comments n the RAB bags. I have an Ascent and tried my Synmat UL7 inside with a 0 deg rated down bag. It all "fits" though I'm not convinced there's enough room for the down to loft properly.
A foam mat is obviously thinner but I prefer the insulation from a thicker mat.

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
As already mentioned, Rab tend to be roomy and most feature eVent tops, an Ascent* sounds like it might fit the bill. Never very cheap but they do come up S/H.
Other option would be a Snowyside from Borah but there's obviously the customs lottery to account for.
*just spotted Colin's comment about size. If the Ascent is too small, the Sierra / Bugaboo would be fine.

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
If you give me 48 hours to get my s*** together I'm thinking of punting my rab ascent bivi - used once outside and twice in bothies as a bag cover - just need to dig it out and check its clean etc. It fitted a neo air mat and a cumulus 300 in it no bother the one time I used it outside.

Picking up my custom sized Snowyside next week :)

Ti Goat bags are great, I love mine. Here is a screen shot of a spreadsheet that might be of use.

Yes but none of the bags in the list are waterproof. Here is a screen shot of a spreadsheet that might be of use.

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
I assume those width figures are actually circumference? Unless some are as wide as they are long, but if they are they quite narrow? Keeping an eye on this thread as having just bought a new mat I'll need something bigger than my standard Hunka if I'm to get the mat inside. Which Ti Goat bag have you got and is it roomy enough for a mat and winter bag?dlovett wrote:Ti Goat bags are great, I love mine. Here is a screen shot of a spreadsheet that might be of use.
I think I'll probably end up making something to get the features and size I'd like (and to see if I can) but I'd like to be sure I get the sizing right. It would be a shame to finish it to discover it's too small

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
American sites seem to quote "girth" rather than "width" for bags but for all practical purposes with these measurements: girth's just double the width.

Re: Bivi Bag deJour is?
I have a Ti Goat Kestrel. It's small, as I think might have been mentioned before It's also not "waterproof" so would need a tarp in anything but light precipitation.
I doubt it'd meet the OP's requirements.
