Hi,

Thanks for all the advice from people on here. Now to give it a run :-bd

Edit: little local run to fine tune brakes and gears and all was well and very comfy for my wrists and general riding position. Seat up some from the photo above but other than that I'm looking forward to a proper ride

I know, I know

Next move is to paint the forks and touch up the frame. Probably just plastikote matt black on the forks as I'm a lazy so-and-so

Noooooooo! Yellow & red really pop out from the photos and contrast well against the subdued tones of vegetation & stonework. Makes your bike look distinctive too, rather than generic :-bd .

More importantly: what framebag for chickenpacking? Is that, like, a thing now? Do you just scatter a few around the bivi site when you arrive? :ugeek:

P.S. - Interesting build, BTW. Glad it works well for you.

Nice. :-bd

I'm a big fan of the Cooker steel frame. Overlooked by too many people in favour of more showy brands, but in terms of ride comfort and handling it's as good as anything I've tried for a rugged, load-carrying mile muncher.

Having said that mine's lying forlorn and bereft of wheels in the back of the shed.

Haha, yeh chicken-packing is the new high fat low carb thing! One in each XL stem cell and after a jiggly ride just remove hen to access eggs. The last night of a trip you have roast chicken on your fire with coffee in a jar :-bd

I'm booked to be away in the cairngorms area early September so we'll see how it goes then. I've no doubt the forks will still be yellow then

I like the cooker frame too, though it is long by comparison to others, but that's no real issue for my use.

Its the first time I've used SRAM double tap and I liked it. BB7 brakes are obviously not the same stopping as hydro but seem more than good enough, though I think I need a little more fine tuning of them.

Feel like I've got a new bike

Nice work. I've nearly done this a few times but I have a CX too so have resisted.

Kind of like the Noddy paint job to :-bd

Love it!
But yeah, forks need painting black! Easy enough to do, just make sure you scuff the old paint up good and proper to give the new paint a good key...then lots of thin coats

When the black paint starts to peel off it'll look like a leopard-skin paint job. Cool!

I'm not picking up these images on my phone, sorry  , but I think tiger striped is more likely.
